CVS Health Performance Engineer - IT Systems in Woonsocket, Rhode Island

Job Description

RxConnect processes three million prescriptions per day for CVS Health. The mission of Performance Testing (PT) is to avoid unanticipated issues and adverse change impacts in Production by validating non-functional requirements. All software and hardware changes for RxConnect go through PT before being approved for Production.

Successful candidate will work with cross functional groups to develop and document performance test strategies for new projects, releases, and initiatives.

Ensure appropriate levels of performance testing are conducted before any changes are introduced to a production system.

Develop Performance Test Strategy documents and gain consensus on PT test cases and performance criteria

Work closely with project Architects to determine Performance Test scenarios

Define test completion and success criteria (i.e. entry / exit criteria)

Provide input and review of PT test cases

Provide subject matter expertise to uncover issues with system infrastructure components

Assess and lead adoption of new technologies being incorporated into the application or infrastructure

Provide troubleshooting expertise for on-demand analysis of PT issues

Provide recommendations and observations for the PT testing process

Lead formal reviews of PT test results with all pertinent parties (Architecture, Infrastructure and, Development) as appropriate

Participate in informal review of diagnostic tests

Review and provide input to test tools design documents (e.g. load simulating tools)

Review System Design Documents and Non-Functional Requirements Documents

Participate in project estimating in support of team forecasting

Required Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have

10+ years of IS/IT experience, including 5+ years of performance engineering and performance test principles and practices.

5+ years experience with multiple components of information technology infrastructure, including multiple operating systems, distributed systems, Web-centric architectures, various hardware components (servers, disk and tape subsystems), network infrastructure components, systems management tools and database management systems.

Understanding of performance testing measures (CPU utilization, response time, network latency, think time etc.).

Strong Skills in Database Concepts, primarily Oracle

Exposure to Basic Database Design, SQL Queries

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree or MBA

Very strong interpersonal skills – including verbal and written communication, meeting management, conflict resolution, team building.

Written communication skills: ability to provide clear instructions, and concise updates.

Strong technical acumen and problem solving skills: innovation, collaboration, risk/benefit analysis.

Ability to work with little or no supervision and minimal assistance.

Operational experience with at least two of the following: UNIX, Oracle, Networking, Middleware or Storage, Java/J2EE technologies

Work experience with Unix commands and shell scripting.

Hands on experience with Web Services implementation (Apache Cxf or any other)

Knowledge of oracle technologies Oracle 11g (Understanding of Query plans, AWR Reports etc.)

Knowledge of concepts related to Heap, Memory, Threads, CPU and how they influence performance and scalability

Knowledge of best practices for coding and design.

Demonstrated experience writing proficient, performance oriented code

Experience with performance engineering tools such as profilers, heap/thread/verbose analyzer

Experience with performance measurement tools such as AWR reports, JProbe, VMSTAT, NETSTAT

Understanding of any version management tool like SVN, VSS etc.

Experience in performance testing and performance analysis of large scale applications

Knowledge of performance life cycle in conjunction with development life cycle


Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science or related field required.
