The Team

The Material Engineering (Mat. Eng.) team is an established organization that supports various Material and Chemical Engineering activities, capable of providing significant value to customers by helping drive projects to closure. Working alongside chemical engineers, material science engineers, structural engineers, and design engineers, the Mat. Eng. team facilitates engineering project success, helping meet schedules and major milestone deadlines. Our mission is to provide full engineering solutions to customers, and help support materials section and designs of aerospace components.

The Role

The role of this material engineer will require the candidate to be highly organized, possess excellent communication skills, be team oriented, and have excellent data management skills; and be able to quickly learn Aerospace Engineering terminology and Bill of Materials nomenclature and a solid foundation of materials science. As part of a QuEST team the candidate will utilize a combination of fellow teammates and individual skill to provide excellent service to customers to meet strict deadlines.

Typical Activities and Roles:

Supporting the customer by helping pull apart and break down specifications into the constituents (materials and chemicals) that are required for use as specified by the specification

Help identify materials of concern in current products as well as appropriate replacments

Supporting customer drawing review meetings and providing material knowledge and expertise needed to get the drawings approved through the various processes

Keeping the customer up to date on varios REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and materials of concern (MOC) lists and changes to help avoid slow down of part production

Job Functions

As an Material engineering assocaite supporting Engineering Program, some of the tasks may include:

  • Work with design engineers to make materials selection. Review designs and highlight potential issues with materials selection.

  • Consult regularly with Materials Experts to resolve complex technical issues involving specialized fields such as surface treatments, heat treatments, welding and brazing, etc.

Additionally you may be asked to support one or more Collins Aerospace engineers with the following items:

  • Support materials section and designs of aerospace components.

  • Participate as the materials engineer on an interdisciplinary design team.

  • Follow detailed processes for documenting engineering evidence throughout the design process.

  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improvement and take ownership for implementation.

Qualifications

We’re excited to talk to you if:

  • B.S. Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Materials concentration or equivalent experience

  • 0-2 year’s Materials Engineering experience

  • Understanding of Materials and processing topics, including materials selection, heat treatment, mechanical testing, corrosion, welding, coatings and nonmetallic engineering materials.

  • Ability to manage the customers’ perceptions and showcase QuEST’s achievements

  • Proficiency with MS-Office Suite Tools and Creation of PowerPoint Documents

  • Extent of Technical Writing & conducting formal presentations

  • You have a strong network in the industry and know how to make connections and build customer relationships

  • Strong business acumen including financial management, contract negotiation, risk planning

  • You have a strong network in the industry and know how to make connections and build customer relationships

  • Charisma and subject matter knowledge to open doors.
