Assists in managing the daily activities of the infection control practitioners in the GMC infection prevention and control program. Responsible for assigned components of the program, including new staff orientation and competency, software systems support and interface with other clinical departments. Reviews and revises policies and procedures to assure compliance with the Centers for Disease Control recommendations, Joint Commission Standards, OSHA and DOH regulations.
Performs all duties in a manner that promotes team work. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to improve safe patient care and lower infection rates. Will have increased responsibility to participate in DOH and other regulatory surveys.
Works as part of the onsite Infection Control Department for the Geisinger Medical Center campus, the Geisinger Clinics, and other healthcare facilities located on the GMC campus and performs all regular duties of an Infection Control Practitioner with a high level of expertise.
In addition, coordinates a variety of additional infection control related projects on the GMC campus.
Carries out the Infection Control Program under the supervision of the Administrative Director, Infection Prevention and Control, and the System Medical Director for Infection Control.

Demonstrates advanced computer skills, basic data entry and report development skills.
Demonstrates excellent written, oral and presentation skills. Functions well as a team player.
Demonstrates ability to effectively interface with physicians, administrators, regulatory bodies, consultants and customers.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum five years clinical and three years infection control experience in hospital setting required.
Certification in Infection Control by the CBIC (Certification Board of Infection Control) required.
Working knowledge of epidemiology and infectious disease principles required.
*NOTE: Will Consider Infection Preventionist I skill set level* that is not Certified in Infection Control minimum two years clinical experience in a Hospital setting required (ex. RN, Medical Technologist, Respiratory Therapist) at the appropriate compensation rate based on relevant experience.**
