Description

Plans, organizes and directs activities in the hardware area of the Information Technology department. Responsible for hardware portion of computer systems within the organization, overseeing installation, ensuring back up systems operate effectively, purchasing hardware, providing the technology infrastructures for the organization and contributing to organizational policy regarding quality standards and strategic planning. Takes or recommends course of action to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations. Represents The Iowa Clinic, P.C. both internally and externally in a positive, professional manner. Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model with all personnel.

  • Manages, plans, organizes, schedules, prioritizes, assigns, and reviews the work of assigned information technology staff; monitors workload, deadlines, goals and progress.

  • Trains staff and ensures application of current performance, policy and processing standards.

  • Conducts analysis and provides input into information technology strategic planning. Participates in budget development.

  • Plans, organizes and serves as project manager on large/complex information technology projects.

  • Evaluates emerging technologies and identifies hardware, software, and other resources necessary to accomplish unit tasks within budgetary constraints. Recommends the purchase of hardware/software.

  • Establishes unit standards and policies; implements and recommends actions to improve work flow, simplify operational and reporting procedures and improve performance standards.

  • Coordinates unit activities with vendors, users and other operational units.

  • Maintains work, time and cost records. Writes status reports, including conclusions and operational recommendations.

  • Recruits, retains, manages and leads the department staff by building appropriately sized teams with the proper technical, application, implementation and general medical informatics expertise to support the current clinical needs and to react to the changing clinical and business needs.

  • Develops and effectively manages detailed and overlapping project plans (scope, schedule, budget, communication, risk management, and issue management) for the various IT projects through the interaction of the project teams, users, and leadership.

  • Identifies and resolves concerns or constraints related to the IT Hardware.

  • Provides leadership and mentoring assigned staff by conducting staff performance evaluations, as well as conducting staff meetings to ensure education and communication.

  • Develops options to address complex operational issues that will arise and helps with resolution in a timely fashion.

  • Troubleshoots and tracks documented reported problems and solutions.

  • Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge of new developments in areas of responsibility through professional organizations, workshops, in-services, etc. Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting areas of responsibility and recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance.

Education: BS in Computer Science or relevant technical field preferred or Associates degree

Previous Work Experience: At least 10 years high level Information Technology experience. Prior management or leadership experience preferred. Healthcare technology experience is a plus.
