General Summary/Purpose:

The eLearning Technician helps clients excel in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning. The Technician will improve service and productivity by supporting current and emerging classroom learning technologies that include audio and video, support classroom and studio recording, and. assist with post-production of recorded classes and events. Reporting to the Sr. Instructional Technology Consultant, the eLearning Technician supports live synchronous sessions at the Media at Carey’s DC campus and assists in troubleshoot Level 1 LMS (Blackboard) issues. S/he interacts with students, faculty, and staff to assist with audio/visual, classroom, presentation, web conferencing and lecture capture technology needs.

This role must be proficient in operation of an on-campus Media Studio and development of asynchronous training materials (print, web and video). This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, learns quickly, and can handle multiple tasks at once in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have an interest in instructional technology and online education. You will excel at the responsibilities listed below if you are self-driven to dive into media production, comfortable balancing different priorities, and open to new challenges. We are looking for a creative, dynamic thinker with strong, writing and editing skills. An aptitude for visual communication, and eye for detail and graphic design a plus.

Note: This position requires regular evenings and occasional weekends to accommodate program needs at the Washington, D.C. (Dupont Circle) campus with occasional trip to Baltimore.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Learning Technology Promotion and Support

  • Designs, develops and delivers training to introduce faculty, TAs, and students to the emerging multimedia technologies and their effective application in teaching and learning.

  • Develops asynchronous training materials (print, web, and video) around using video and multimedia objects.

  • Assist in maintaining media and other learning object in Blackboard LMS.

  • Create, develop, edit and implement new content for multimedia projects and ensure the continued growth, efficacy, accuracy, and timeliness of T&L@C’s web-based communications.

  • Apply knowledge of best practices in usability and accessibility to create strong web pages with clear messaging.

  • Develops print and video training materials and uploads to Teaching & Learning@Carey resource website.

  • Will serve as backup for LMS issues/support as needed

Media Studio- Delivery Support

  • Provides technical support for online course delivery in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.

  • Sets up web and video conferences (Zoom, Adobe Connect, etc.).

  • Helps with video production.

  • Help set up cameras, microphones, and lights.

  • Help in the multimedia studio (setup camera, screen capture, and monitor recordings).

  • Accurately edits audio and/or video from script, development of both text-based and animated content.

  • Ensures visual elements and quality standards are maintained across the entire video production process.

  • Retouching videos, including color correction, graphics/animations, and timing music/sound to copy.

  • Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running.

  • Continuously discover and implement new technologies and industry’s best practices to maximize efficiency.

Course Development Support

  • Collaborates with team members and faculty to develop technology enriched course materials using new and emerging instructional technologies, digital media, web-based technologies, etc.

  • Reviews 3rd party video production for quality and consistency on Wipster and Frame.io platforms.

  • Assists faculty in developing reusable learning objects (Videos, lecture capture etc.) and integrating them into their courses.

Research

  • Keeps abreast of developments of related instructional technologies.

  • Researches and disseminate educational technology resources and best practices in technology enhanced teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Four years related experience required.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  • Experience with multimedia production and video editing.

  • Experience leading sessions using a Web conferencing tool (e.g. Adobe Connect or Zoom), developing courses in a course management systems (e.g., Blackboard), and utilizing web design tools (e.g., Photoshop, DreamWeaver, HTML, CSS), digital video, audio editing software, and multimedia authoring software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and/or Final Cut Pro).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.

  • Concentrations in Web Design, Multimedia, Instructional Design, related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • 2 years’ experience in an institution of higher education with instructional technology support, instructional design or in tech support.

  • Experience developing asynchronous training sites & materials.

  • Experience with implementing and training on SMART Board technology.

  • Ability to keep track of event calendars.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Experience taking concepts/ideas and creating multimedia content.

  • Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Media Encoder, Photoshop, etc.).

  • Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio.

  • Working knowledge of filming equipment (HD Camera, microphone, studio lighting, and teleprompter).

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of lecture and screen capture tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Panopto, Kaltura etc.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

  • Knowledge of social media tools and their application in teaching and learning.
