Edison Electric Institute Director, Executive Communications & Content Strategy in Washington, District Of Columbia


The Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies, has an outstanding opportunity for a Director, Executive Communications & Content Strategy.


The Director will develop content for materials that support EEI’s public policy goals, including speeches, presentations, talking points, and other executive materials. Incumbent will work across the Institute to develop and implement integrated communications strategies that ensure consistency of message and purpose. Will enhance EEI’s thought leadership and proactively promote industry initiatives through national and trade media. Will identify opportunities for EEI-sponsored events and create strategies to execute. Will create an EEI Speakers’ Bureau and manage speaking engagements for senior executives and EEI subject matter experts. Will also serve as communications lead on external EEI-sponsored or -supported events, including IEI events, and lead development of materials to communicate EEI’s value proposition to member companies. In addition, incumbent will provide media relations and communications assistance as needed, particularly during storms or crisis situations.


The successful applicant will have:

  • College degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, political science, or related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the communications, public relations, or journalism field, or press-related experience on Capitol Hill or in a trade association, PR agency, corporation, electric utility, or government office.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills and ability to develop strategic communications, including dynamic presentations.

  • Ability to communicate complex subjects in an understandable fashion.

  • Thorough command of industry issues and the news media.

  • The ability to exercise sound judgement under tight deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of internal and external teams.

  • Energy or electricity-related experience strongly desired.
