  • Install, Configure, Maintain and Troubleshoot a wide range of security systems

  • Management of platforms – WAF, SIEM, Vulnerability Management, and Firewall

  • Manage IDS/IPS (Risk management – understanding tool based attacks vs. crafted attacks vs. false positives)

  • SSL certificate management (Manage SSL certification – specifically understanding TLS versions and Cipher suites)

  • Documentation (Common tasks, architectural information, tips and tricks should be documented for IT department consumption; Stay up to date on security news and techniques; Provide clear write up of any incident that may occur)

  • Review logs/alarms/emails to determine a security incident vs. operational incident

  • Ability to learn and research about potential incidents (Research a given incident and respond if appropriate)

  • Deep understanding of malware/spyware and its countermeasures (Malware attack vectors (email, web, social engineering, etc.)

  • Documentation of security elements of the enterprise network

  • Conduct internal audits, system scans, and review reports

  • Perform hardware/software upgrades

Required Skills

  • Windows Desktop and Server configuration (Primary – Group Policy, Active Directory, Registry, User Profiles, Event Viewer; Secondary – Hardening, Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit, Boundary controls, SysInternal tools, Windows Event Collection, PowerShell/Python)

  • Linux/Unix (Basic understanding of command line interfaces (ls, grep, df, du, cat, less/more, cp, rm)

  • Networking (OSI model, TCP/IP, UDP, VLANs, Nmap/Zenmap usage (including scripts)

  • Generalized Security (conceptual knowledge)( Web Application Security, OWASP top 10, Regex, read Snort/Suricata rules, Web proxy usage, API usage and eventual utilizations)


Education or experience equivalent to a college degree is required.

Training requirements

Roughly 1 day a week should be spent familiarizing with products, environment and subject matter experts. Training will be necessary (CEH/AlienVault/Linux) and should be maintained throughout tenure at around 10%. Must also complete department specific training certifications and corporate security training.

All candidates are subject to a drug test and a background screening and must meet FBI requirements.
