This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until May 31, 2020. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be November 22, 2019 with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st of each month or earlier. Incumbent performs as a Housekeeping Aide in areas where significant aseptic are required. Incumbent is responsible for performing a full range of cleaning and disinfecting duties. Incumbent shall clean all areas consisting of regular cleaning, terminal cleaning and disinfecting. Other areas/responsibilities that require thorough cleaning consist of offices, restrooms, showers and other areas by dusting, mopping, stripping and waxing of floors, scrubbing floors using scrub machines, utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE). Incumbent may be required to work rotational shift depending on workload. Incumbent works as a member or a team to ensure that areas and connecting areas are maintained at the highest levels of sanitation through proper use of aseptic techniques and practices. Incumbent disinfects floors, walls, ceilings, corners, doors, kick plates, baseboards, equipment, and other surfaces to ensure that areas are aseptically clean and pleasing. Incumbent uses proper disinfectants to disinfect areas where body wastes (bloody fluid, urine, bile, liquid feces, etc.) are processed. All chemicals will be used in accordance with label directions and disposed of in the approved manner. Incumbent will follow all applicable guidelines outlined in CTVHCS policies and local, state, and federal regulations relating to proper chemical dilutions and sound safety practices. The CTVHCS is a very complex operation consisting of over 1,800 beds and an estimated 2.4 million square feet. The Temple Site includes research, surgery, day surgery, domiciliary, nursing home care unit, emergency room (urgent care), surgical intensive care, medical intensive care, sleep lab, SCI clinic, MRI facilities. Incumbent when needed will be assigned to the surgical unit (O.R., PACU, etc.), and will have professional knowledge in these areas. The Waco Site consist of psychiatry, blind rehabilitative, intermediate, and clinics. This site is also one of the three Centers of Excellence in VHA. The work requires incumbent to be knowledgeable of supplies and chemicals and a means of accomplishing the assigned task as safely as possible. Incumbent has the ability and know how to clean and sanitize blood borne pathogens spills, i.e.. blood and other body fluids/excretions, using correct and effective methods. Incumbent is responsible for cleaning heavy soiling consisting of body excretions such as stool, urine, etc. Proper removal, cleaning, and disinfecting shall be exhibited by the incumbent following proper blood borne pathogen procedures and understanding. Incumbent accomplishes bed-making services to ensure admitting process operates efficiently and effectively. During regular and terminal cleaning discharges, removal of linen from the bed and placing linen in proper hamper is included in the discharge cleaning process/procedure. Incumbent follows safety practices such as safety, PPE, use, etc. Work Schedule: Sunday through Saturday; 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (Midnight); Shift times may vary as required.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent is a housekeeping aid in the Environmental Management Service. Incumbent cleans offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways, hospital rooms and units, clinics, laboratories, imaging, psychiatric areas, blind rehabilitative areas, restrooms and other areas. Incumbent is responsible for the terminal cleaning of all bed units (frames, mattresses, bed casters, bedside stand/lockers - inside and out - over-bed tables), and chairs, which includes making of clean bed. Incumbent also does routine/daily cleaning of beds units with the exception of the inside of occupied bedside stands/lockers. Incumbent is responsible for cleaning wheeled equipment except medicine carts, treatment carts and wheelchairs. Incumbent dust, wax, and polish furniture, empty waste containers; clean windows (inside), ceilings, furniture, sinks, walls, beds, fans, light fixtures, and other items of fixed and portable equipment; and clean restrooms, shower areas, and fixtures incidental thereto. Incumbent is responsible for performing the full range of cleaning and disinfecting duties. Incumbent ensures that the area assigned is maintained in a neat, pleasing, and sanitary condition. Incumbent correctly and effectively disinfects blood spills and other body fluids to meet infection control standards. Incumbent cleans and disinfects rolling stock at the CTVHCS. Rolling stock consists of gurneys, stretchers, geri-chairs, beds, bedside stands, over bed tables, and other similar direct patient use wheeled items. Incumbent dust, wax, and polish furniture, vacuum and shampoo carpet, wash walls and windows (normally interior), empty waste containers, clean sinks, collect trash, collect soiled linen (Waco site), place clean linen on shelves in linen room (Waco site), clean restrooms and shower areas, replace needed products such as paper towels, toile tissue, soap, and other similar items in all areas as assigned. Incumbent has the knowledge of Environment of Care issues as it relates to safety and the environment. Environment must be clean and organized. Incumbent mush have knowledge of SDS proper chemical storage and usage, PPE use, etc. Incumbent is knowledgeable in Infection Control policies which include Standard Precautions and OSHA's Blood borne Pathogen Regulations. Emphasis placed on Air-Boren Droplets, TB, Contact Isolation, and MRSA initiatives. All include specific knowledge concerning proper chemical use, cleaning practices, procedures, etc. to ensure room is maintained in a manner not to place patients, visitors, staff, etc. at risk. Working Conditions: The incumbent will have personal contact with all sections of Engineering, Infection Control, Safety, and Industrial Hygiene Management Services, clinical chief, administrative Chiefs, supervisors, patients/residents, visitors, volunteers, employees, nursing staff in particular, etc. Personal contact will be enormous. Incumbent must be prepared to work with all soci0-economic levels. Incumbent performs duties of a Housekeeping Aid in all locations of CTVHCS, excluding the Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Incumbent will have immediate and frequent contacts with Physicians, RNs, LVNs, NAs, and clerical staff in the area(s) assigned. Incumbent will perform duties that require moderate physical effort in moving and setting-up equipment. Incumbent works on ladders and scaffolds and operates heavy, powered equipment. Incumbent regularly lifts and empties trash receptacles, lifts and carries bags of soiled linen and mop buckets filled with water, and lifts and carries other items that weight up to 50 pounds. When items exceed 50 pounds, the incumbent will request additional help from his/her supervisor or work leader to prevent injury to self. Safe methods of moving and/or lifting items are a job prerequisite. Incumbent usually works indoors in areas that normally have adequate heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation. Occasionally, the incumbent is exposed to skin irritants from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping/resurfacing floors, etc. The incumbent usually works indoors, in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation.
