Virginia Mason Memorial Registered Nurse (RN) - NICU/Peds/Med/Surg (Adults) in United States

We are looking for an RN to join our NICU/Peds/Med/Surg team here at Virginia Mason Memorial. Our 15-bed NICU and 14-room Pediatric unit are managed and staffed jointly. Staff are trained to the basic function of both roles and specialize in either NICU or Peds (as core staff members). During low volumes, our Pediatric unit also serves adult medical/surgical patients. The broad scope of our NICU/Peds/Med/Surg RN role is supported by dedicated Pharmacy and Dietary teams, and by Assistant Nurse Managers – both day and night. RNs at Virginia Mason Memorial also enjoy support from a 24-hour Respiratory Team, IV Therapists, Social Workers and Chaplains.

ROLE SUMMARY

The RN completes individualized, age appropriate patient assessment; develops care plan based on assessment/history findings; delivers care; evaluates patient's response to care and revises as needed for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. The RN is accountable for delivery of care as well as supervision of other personnel (clinical & non-clinical) in delivering/supporting the delivery of care during their assigned work period.

RN Pediatric Duties

  1. Utilize the special equipment used on the unit.
  2. Keep current on all point of care lab equipment.
  3. Provide pre-op teaching for patients.
  4. Provides breast feeding support to patients.
  5. Provide teaching for parents regarding care of premature babies/help prepare for care at home.
  6. Manage all types of Pediatric admits.
  7. Assist with car seat fit and challenges.
  8. Assist with family infant CPR instruction.

RN NICU Duties

  1. Utilize the special equipment used on the unit.
  2. Keep current on all point of care lab equipment.

  5. Manage all types of Neonatal admits.
  6. Assist with car seat fit and challenges.
  7. Assist with family infant CPR instruction.
  8. Assists with neonatal transports.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associate's degree in nursing required; BSN preferred. Experience: Previous acute care nursing experience preferred. Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Registered Nurse licensure required. American Heart Association BLS required. Additional certifications: Current NRP certification required (NICU). Current PALS certification preferred or must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
