Marathon Petroleum Company has an immediate opening for a Scheduler. The Scheduler will report to the Scheduling Supervisor and will work closely with internal organizations such as Marine, Marketing, SD&P, Specialty Products, and Refining to satisfy their needs for product movements, acquisitions and sales. The position is available in the 8-12 grade range, depending on experience.
The Scheduler will establish appropriate movement schedules to satisfy short and long-term demand requirements for multiple classes of trade (ie. Crude Oil, Light Products, Feedstocks, Heavy Oils, and Specialty Chemicals), work with internal organizations to schedule the delivery of products by pipeline or waterborne transportation to third party and company locations to meet customer’s demand (sales forecast) in a timely and cost-effective manner, utilize the spot equipment market on a move-by-move basis as needed to fill supply/demand gaps with chartered equipment, identify backhaul opportunities throughout the river-system(s) when possible, optimize equipment utilization identifying and executing out-charter and other external commercial opportunities, identify efficient use of boat capabilities to maximize marine asset utilization, provide market-based freight rates to internal customers for decision-making, analyze invoices for accuracy and adherence to contractual requirements, effectively communicate boat/barges orders to Operations, Accounting, other internal organizations, and external vendors, and develop strategic plans for abnormal events, such as lock closures, hurricanes, and extreme river conditions.The scheduler will be on call to handle any type of changes as needed after hours.
The scheduler will coordinate pipeline, barge and/or tanker movements for appropriate timing, batch size and sequence of product shipments in order to optimize the supply of the available products from refineries and terminals, while also minimizing transportation costs and ensuring quality. They will monitor inventories at terminals and refineries on a daily basis and adjust shipping schedules to avoid product shortages containment and the use of excess working capital. Schedulers will develop improved scheduling methods to efficiently utilize company resources, optimize inventory levels, and minimize transportation costs as well as coordinate the communications between terminals, Marketing, Exchange and Product Quality regarding any inventory or operational issue.
The successful candidate must have a professional attitude, strong work ethic, commitment to Company policies/procedures, a drive to achieve exceptional results, work effectively in a team environment, and sound decision-making abilities. They must possess a bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline, have experience with PC-based and mainframe software applications (i.e., Microsoft Office), exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to set, organize, and manage multiple job priorities. Previous experience with the scheduling of product movements is highly desirable. The individual must be able to collaborate successfully with individuals from all levels of the organization.
