Job Description

Senior Field Director for Medical Scientists- Liver Disease- West

Specific Education & Experience Requirements:

Individual Contributor (North America Only)

Advanced degree (i.e. MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, NP/PA) required.

Relevant experience must include at least 10 yrs clinical practice experience.

Clinical practice experience within therapeutic area of interest is highly preferred.

Industry experience preferred.

Manager

Advanced degree (i.e. MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, NP/PA) required.

Relevant experience must include at least 10 yrs clinical practice experience.

Clinical practice experience within therapeutic area of interest is highly preferred.

Industry experience preferred.

People management experience is highly preferred for managers.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Individual Contributor (North America Only)

Provides clear leadership and management in the development and delivery of a variety of highly complex projects.

Initiates and independently completes projects and participates in or leads special project teams.

The Director anticipates obstacles and provides direction for resolution for a variety of projects and report preparation and presentation.

Also anticipates obstacles and difficulties that may arise in the field and resolves them in a collaborative manner.

Represents the company to groups of experts, medical professional bodies, expert societies, and regulatory bodies and at international scientific meetings.

Participates in advisory panels and key conference activities.

Sought out for advices and collaboration by others from within and outside of Gilead.

Utilizes scientific resources to deliver impactful presentations in a variety of different settings. Management of other MSs may be requested or required at this level at some future date.

The Director takes a leadership role in training of the other MSs.

Excellent verbal, written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Anticipates obstacles and difficulties that may arise in the field and acts upon these to resolve them in a collaborative manner.

Must have the ability to work as a member of several teams that may overlap such as the national MS team, regional sales team, national accounts and others.)

Utilizes scientific resources for impactful presentations in a variety of different settings.

Works independently with minimal direct supervision and has substantial autonomy.

May also perform duties of individual contributor

Manager

Leads and manages a team of Medical Scientists in an assigned region.

Responsible for ensuring the successful dissemination of innovative clinical information to thought-leaders and foster medical and scientific information exchange from and throughout the specific disease communities.

Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with current and emerging therapeutic area thought-leaders based on mutual respect and Gilead’s sincere interest in sharing its perspective on medical therapies. This includes but is not limited to Gilead-marketed products, and obtaining feedback from the independent community of relevant healthcare professionals.

Delivers timely, accurate and succinct communication of fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, both proactively and in response to requests for information, consistent with promotional compliance and regulatory requirements.

Coaches, oversees and conducts performance evaluations of Medical Scientists via active observation of the team; establishment of clearly defined team and individual goals & objectives (quantitative and qualitative); implementation of processes to routinely monitor progress

Coordinates Medical Sciences participation in Gilead advisory boards, symposia and educational programs, such as speaker training and conference planning

Executes strategic plans consistent with the Therapeutic Area Medical Affairs Plan of Action (POA).

Collaborates effectively and in a compliant manner with colleagues in other functional areas such as Clinical Research, Medical Services, Sales and Marketing, etc. Works independently with minimal supervision.
