A Brief Summary of This Position

The Storeroom Attendant is an individual contributor role who performs and oversees the receiving, issuing and movement of material accurately and efficiently throughout the plant through established procedures and coordinates through quality assurance material not conforming to Valmont specifications.

This person works under the direction of Purchasing Manager/Manufacturing Manager, but with minimum supervision and within the guidelines of established procedures. The employee supports the material control department with emphasis on inventory accuracy of the storeroom, the receiving of vendor and in process plate, and the issuing of material to manufacturing and outside operating sources.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs audits within the storeroom and reports results to the supervisor.

  • Provides pertinent information for the dispatcher, leads, and supervisor for the orderly continuity and transition of the department effort.

  • Maintains good housekeeping in the area and exercises precautions for the safety of one’s self and others.

  • May be required to work irregular hours.

  • Measures, gauges, and inspects material per specifications.

  • Edits all issues and receipts for completeness, reasonableness, and accuracy.

  • May be required as needed to assist with functions in other department areas.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • The ability to read and decipher blueprints, specifications, and bill of materials

  • The ability to pass a forklift driver’s test

  • The ability to prioritize work in order and complete deadlines

  • The ability to perform basic math functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing

  • The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions

  • The ability to work through and solve practical problems

  • A strong working knowledge of spreadsheets, data entry, and computers

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Previous experience working or maintaining a store room

  • One year of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment

  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals

  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

SKILL

Educational Background

  • Able to clearly communicate written and verbal instructions.

  • Proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, performs decimal conversions, and the use of micrometers and tape measure.

  • Ability to read specifications, bill of material, and simple blue prints.

Job Training Skill Development

Must be able to perform satisfactorily all functions of this position within 90 days of starting this position. Obtain valid Valmont forklift Operator License for all forklifts used in the position.

Decision Making

The decisions the person in this position makes affects inventory accuracy and availability of material for the production and shipping areas. The incumbent is responsible for prioritizing the work load to avoid lost time to all departments. Utilizes product mix in location assuring proper rotation of stored materials. Uses impact or other methods for improvements. Reviews space allocations and material flow to maximize utilization of space available. Able to apply creativity to solving the problems encountered within the scope of his/her activity. Examples would be to receive material, issue material, or resolve inventory discrepancies and implement the appropriate action to correct them, such as losing and finding material.

EFFORT

Physical Effort

Operates equipment 50% of the time. Lifts, pushes, and carries material <50 lbs., 10% of the time. Standing, stooping, bending, sitting and squatting 30% of the day.
