SERT - JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER 1

Under supervision, maintains custody and security of juveniles, responds to emergencies and maintains order in Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facilities by enforcing relevant rules, regulations, policies and state laws necessary for the control and management of juveniles and the maintenance of public safety. Escorts juveniles in transit to locations within and outside of designated facilities, in transit to and from other facilities, and during temporary leaves. Oversees juveniles during work assignments, meals, and recreation periods. Guards facility entrances for the screening of visitors. Inspects, inventories and maintains control of key logs, tools, and related equipment. Patrols assigned areas and report any problems. Prepares facility related reports. May handle and train canines for tracking, search and rescue, guard duty and the detection of contraband.
In addition to the established salary the following incentives will be applicable to this position: SERT Incentive Pay - 10% per month.
Applicants selected for these positions will be required to take and pass a Physical Assessment exam.
Effective November 1, 2013, all applicants for a JCO 1 position will be required to take the Compass Exam prior to submitting an application for employment. Applications for JCO 1 positions will only be considered with accompanying passing test scores. if an applicant for a JCO 1 position has a 4 year degree from an accredited college or university OR a current POST certification they are EXEMPT from having to take the Compass test and do NOT have to provide a SAT or ACT test score. However, the applicant must provide a copy of the degree or POST profile with their completed application.
This position is eligible for a Military Salary Incentive. This incentive is for current/former service members who have served on active duty.
This position is subject to a background check which may include, criminal and employment history, references and social media.
High school diploma or GED AND any combination of training and experience which would enable the applicant to meet the minimum standards of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.).
