What You Will Do

Job Summary:

The Area Pharmacy Manager Pharmacy Education serves as the primary internal and external expert and liaison for all inpatient, outpatient, and mixed use medication services that support the mission, vision, and values of Ascension and The Resource Group. The expert will serve as the area health-system expert in education and personnel development from oversight, education, policies + procedures, monitoring, reporting, and program enhancement / optimization.


  • Assists in the development and deployment of education programs for staff development and competency assessment

  • Coordinates local pharmacy education and development program and identifies and implements opportunities for improvement in collaboration with the National Education/Development Director

  • Creates a strategic education plan to support new product implementation

  • Assists in the development and implementation of clinical competencies to underpin safe and effective clinical practice and interventions

  • Maintains knowledge of the policy changes that impact regulatory compliance in regards to education/development

  • Actively engages in decision-making processes as related to education and development g. Routinely reviews data and related reports from all points of service at which education and development is required to ensure that policies and procedures are followed

  • Provides ongoing training, education, and communication required for personnel development across the area

  • Develops and maintains internal relationships (pharmacy department, education department, etc.) and external relationships (ACPE, manufacturers, vendors) as needed

  • Operates as the central point of contact for all regional project management activities, concerns and questions regarding education/ development

  • Researches and responds to education and development questions from stakeholders

  • Analyzes strategic growth initiatives and provides summaries and recommendations regarding the role of education and development related to the strategy

  • Assists in the development and implementation of changes regarding the best and most cost effective way of doing training. This includes developing and implementing improved training processes and/or using alternative media such as video, slides, overheads, Computer Based Instruction, etc.

  • Reviews documentation for clinical accuracy and incorporation into training documentation.

  • Determines staffing skills requirements and assessments, implementing a clear and standard practice on evaluation of skills and ongoing training plan

  • Pursues innovation by fostering a culture of experimentation and tolerance for mistakes

  • Encourages curiosity and creative dissatisfaction with the status quo

  • Communicates skillfully using different styles appropriate to the audience



Required Credential(s):

  • LicensedPharmacistobtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Preferred Credential(s):

  • Drug Enforcement Admin.

  • Finger Printing.

  • CSR-Prescriptive Authority.

  • Pharmacy residency training strongly preferred.

  • Acts as a preceptor to pharmacy students, residents, and others in training.


  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • PharmD degree preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 1 year technical experience required.

  • 5 years pharmacy experience that may include pharmacy education and development, health-system leadership, or comparative consultative experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Knowledge of pharmacy education and development

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Effective project management skills

  • Effective time management skills
