Overview

Developmental Disabilities Institute, DDI, is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities and other special needs. DDI has been a part of Long Island for over 50 years serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism, other developmental disabilities and special needs. DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services.

The Medical Support Assistant works closely with the Residential Nurse to coordinate medical appointments and transportation to ensure proper and routine medical care for the individuals we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Liaison with Residential Nurses for scheduling of transport to medical appointments

  • Escorting individuals to OPTI and/or outside medical appointments as assigned

  • Ensuring proper paperwork obtained from OPTI or outside providers, (prescriptions, consults etc.), and given to residential staff

  • Liaison with residential nurses for physician’s orders

  • Obtaining OPTI appointment list for day

  • Reviewing trip sheets to ensure individuals do not have medical appointments for the time stated on trip request form

  • Coordinating outside medical appts. with residential nursing to assist when possible

  • AMAP duties in nurses office as assigned

  • Filing of medical paperwork in charts as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Required, BA in Human Services Preferred

  • AMAP Certification Required

  • One year of experience serving individuals with Developmental Disabilities required

  • Valid NYS driver’s license and approved to drive by DDI’s Transportation Department

  • Valid NYS driver’s license required 18+ months
