This position will lead Category Development responsibilities for Wakefern & Ahold through the analysis of customer scan/loyalty data, consumer/shopper insights and industry trends to help drive strategic growth for Edgewell Personal Care Shave, Sun/Skin & Fem Care categories. The Wakefern & Ahold Category Development Manager is responsible for planning and implementing Category Management initiatives to maximize Edgewell Personal Care’s business goals for profit, volume and share. The Category Management Vision is to “Be a Most Trusted Business Advisor where our Retail Partners embrace Edgewell Personal Care in a challenger role”.
Co-develop and manage the annual integrated customer business plan with Wakefern & Ahold National Account Managers and East Coast Team Leader to achieve the agreed upon brand and customer growth strategies and objectives. Monitor results to ensure that the plan and program implementation incorporate programs that achieve the company’s business goals for profit, volume, margin and share.
Develop strategic category plans which attain Wakefern & Ahold objectives while also meeting Edgewell Personal Care’s profit, volume, margin, and share objectives.
Act as category expert by objectively delivering Category Development principles and solutions through use of Wakefern & Ahold Insights and internal data, Nielsen, industry studies and custom consumer/shopper research.
Support category management growth through the application of the most recent sales technologies including shelf management tools such as JDA, Point of Sale systems (Nielsen and IRI) applications, Assortment Tool (Rich Mix), Wakefern & Ahold Insights with emphasis on fact-based selling.
Demonstrate expertise in category management and efficient assortment to the customer.
Be proficient in interpreting shopper and consumer research to drive category solutions development with our customers.
Strengthen and develop account relationships through objective presentation and active participation in key customer meetings, deliver value-added insights and recommendations to grow the category and Edgewell Personal Care brands.
Utilize shelf management software and category expertise to provide recommendations for shelf placement of new items and existing products with an objective of securing distribution/placement that is mutually beneficial for Edgewell Personal Care and our accounts.
Initiate & synchronize brand strategies/priorities with customer strategies for a win-win. Execute new product initiatives accordingly. Develop scorecards and monitor the execution of 4P activities in line with established objectives and guidelines.
Have a broad understanding of Wakefern & Ahold, the Drug Channel and Edgewell, and as well as key industry and category drivers.
As a dedicated category partner for Wakefern & Ahold, work closely with the Customer Team and any key account stakeholders to develop growth strategies and tactics for the aisle across Wet Shave/Grooming, Fem Care, Sun/Skin Care and Infant Care.
Solid experience in using best in class category tools and resources to bring solid category insights to the buyer and internal key stakeholders. Tools include, but are not limited to the following: Wakefern PPI Shopper Card system, Nielsen/IRI syndicated and panel database resources, JDA, Rich Mix, Infoscout, etc.
Utilize multiple data sources to develop comprehensive go-to-market category strategies, spanning across product, placement, price, and promotion.
Provide high-level shelf layout and modular planning insights inclusive of evaluating assortment opportunities, performing space to sales analyses, recommending best in class shelving strategies based on shopper and shelving research.
Continually identify creative and improved methods and approaches of category management for Wakefern & Ahold in which will lead to sustainable category growth and better business relationships.
Approach strategic projects with confidence; applying creativity and project management skills through ideation, development, piloting, and test & learn.
Use your category expertise, intellect, emotional intelligence, and pro-active communication skills to influence key stakeholders internally and externally to move category-driving agendas forward.
Required Skills and Experience
5+ years Category Management experience, HBC preferred
IRI/Nielsen, Wakefern & Ahold Insights, JDA and Richmix experience required
Must be knowledgeable in gathering and interpreting syndicated data (IRI and ACNielsen) as well as custom and syndicated consumer insights to provide supporting evidence for recommendations.
Candidates must possess knowledge of sales and category management practices and principles – typically gained through work experience within a consumer-packaged goods company
Bachelor’s degree or MBA preferred
Ability to be an effective advocate for sales and category management leadership initiatives across the enterprise
Incumbent must utilize Excel and/or PowerPoint based presentations to present findings. Candidates must be able to orally and visually present information to peers and potentially customers.
Possess the ability to multitask and prioritize multiple ongoing projects.
