We are seeking a strong Senior Data Scientist for a new infrastructure project that will influence the design and operation of AWS' global backbone network. This is a ground floor opportunity and we are looking for someone who can take an idea from inception to delivery. This is a high visibility position that will collaborate with multiple infrastructure and AWS Services teams. This role is suited for someone who is excited by rapid growth, willing to chart new territories, and define new processes where there are none. The AWS Internet Services, Infrastructure team is responsible for the strategy, acquisition, implementation, and maintenance of the network and all associated resources necessary to grow the AWS footprint worldwide. Your work will guide multi-million dollar submarine and terrestrial fiber acquisitions and drive the differentiation of AWS' network. You will work closely with the business development team building AWS' sub-sea and terrestrial dark fiber network, research scientist teams, and network engineering teams to drive model implementations and design new algorithms that change the way we operate. Basic Qualifications BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent 5+ years professional experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, forecasting, data mining, and analytics techniques Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience with distributed computing systems for data science (Hadoop or Spark) Preferred Qualifications PhD degree in computer science, or related technical, math, or scientific field Experience building and deploying machine learning models Familiarity with NetFlow data and networking concepts Comfort with ambiguity Strong data presentation skills Experience in using Python, R or Matlab or other statistical/machine learning software Familiarity with AWS (or similar cloud) solutions such as EMR, S3, and Redshift Amazon is an Equal Opportunity-Affirmative Action Employer – Minority / Female / Disability / Veteran / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation
