Gain valuable experience with Sonoma County's Department of Child Support Services!iThe Sonoma County Department of Child Support Services invitesistudents currently enrolled inithe second through fourth year ofilaw schoolito apply for a Child Support Law Clerk Internship.iiChild Support Law Clerk Interns will work directly with staff attorneys to gain experience in family law litigation and become familiar with child support statutes, regulations, and policies. Interns will:Prepare moving and responsive pleadingsNegotiate and draft stipulationsProvide courtroom supportMake court appearancesIdeal candidates will have completed, or be currently enrolled in, Civil Procedure and Evidence coursework.Law ClerkiInternships:iLaw Clerks are considered to be Interns and such are not in classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as: long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation and sick leave; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations.i Further, Law Clerks may not work more than 1,560 hours in a twelve-month period (from date of hire) regardless of whether they are currently enrolled in a full-time or part-time academic program.i Internships are limited to a maximum of 36 months for Law Clerks currently enrolled in an academic programs and 3 years for Graduate Law Clerks.iPlease note:iPositions with access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) must complete a background investigation that includes:iReview of FBI fingerprint results that includes criminal history in all 50 states (Live Scan, FD-258 Applicant Fingerprint Card).Check of local law enforcement agencies where the applicant has lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years, and if applicable, a check of the appropriate agency for any identified arrests.Enrollment in subsequent notifications from the California Department of Justice of any new criminal activity while employed with Child Support Servicesi*Salary is negotiable and benefits described herein do not represent a contract and may be changed without notice.
