General Electric Staff Software Engineer in San Ramon, California

Role Summary:As a Staff Software Engineer you will develop framework agnostic reusable components/widgets to bring visual consistency across all applications in GE Healthcare . You understand the importance of human-centered design and the implication of technology on experiences. As a Staff Software Engineer you will execute on multiple small to medium sized projects as an individual contributor with a focus on at least one specialized technology domain.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks

  • Skilled in providing oversight and mentoring team members.

  • Shows ability to effectively delegate work.

  • Demonstrates the ability to make informed technology choices after due diligence and impact assessment.

  • Understands whole product, its modules and the interrelationship between them while being an expert in the assigned component or module.

  • Helps in designing interfaces and information exchange between modules. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) on one or more major modules.

  • Possesses advanced domain knowledge and shows great customer focus.

  • Demonstrates clarity of thinking to work through limited information and vague problem definitions.

  • Expert in processes / methodologies and Skilled in build, release & deployment processes.

  • Helps define his or her own role in the delivery of the product/service design.

  • Articulates the need for scalability and understands the importance of improving quality through testing.

  • Drives design reviews, defines interfaces between code modules, and applies existing technology to designs.

  • Expert in assessing application performance and optimizing/improving it through design and best coding practices.

  • Expert in core data structures as well as algorithms and has the ability to implement them using language chosen.

  • Drives functional design and implementation on one or more major modules.

  • Serves as SME and works closely with support and infrastructure services in troubleshooting customer and operational issues.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) from an accredited university or college with a minimum 5 years of professional experience OR

  • Master's Degree with a minimum 2 years of professional experience

  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towards relevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed

  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical Expertise:

  • Expert in Front-End Framework Architecture (e.g. Angular, ReactJS, Vue.JS etc.) and how to use and optimize them&

  • Expert in developing reusable web components using JavaScript/Angular/SASS/CSS

  • Strong UX concepts in understanding designs and converting them into coded components

  • Very good understanding of Web Components and Shadow

  • Thorough understanding of GitHub check-ins & code-review process

  • Basic understanding of Jenkins and AWS skills like S3/CDN

  • Previous design system development experience is plus

  • Strong understanding of coding standards and guidelines for various languages and a desire to craft beautiful code

  • Strong understanding of APIs, Databases, and one server-side language (e.g. Python, Java, PHP, etc.)

  • Experience in guiding and coaching Jr. Engineers in latest UI technologies

  • Capable of independently researching and exploring new technologies and their implications within projects

  • Should be a quick learner and be able to work independently with minimal or no support in a fast paced environment

  • Business Acumen:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of business’ structure (P&Ls) and the interplay of functions to support business goals.

  • Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc. Articulates clearly the main industry dynamics.

  • Understands key principles of design thinking, what it is and why it is important, and how technology can be used in the process to explore possibilities. Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.

  • Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.

  • Leadership:

  • Translates user-centered design requirements into technical implementations for projects. Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives.

  • Keeps participants focused on task and end process. Guides participation to include all present; solicits information about absent stakeholders.

  • Expresses technology options to collaborators on cross functional teams. Goes beyond merely suggesting design technologies and clearly articulates the rationale and benefit of design technology choices.

  • Understands the value of a rigorous and transparent decision-making process;
