The Study Design and Biostatistics Center (SDBC) in the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Utah is seeking a biostatistician to carry out statistical analyses in collaboration with clinical and translational investigators in the areas of Congenital Heart Disease and/or Pediatric Acquired Heart Disease. The successful candidate will be a PhD level Biostatistician who works effectively in a group setting in areas of design of data collection instruments, study design, statistical programming, analysis of data, statistical graphics and writing of reports which include explanations of methods used and interpretations of results obtained. Experience working with administrative datasets and multicenter registry (including medical billing datasets, state vital records and environmentally and spatially explicit datasets, datasets from clinical registries (including Centripitus,IMPACT), andNIHpublic use datasets; and experience with the analysis of population-level and genetic epidemiological study designs is expected and experience with advanced methodologies such as modeling and simulations is desired. Applicants must be organized, attentive to detail and timely in their work. Most importantly, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to become integral to a very productive and successful research team.
Education Requirements: CandidatesMUSThave a PhD degree in statistics or biostatistics or related field. Experience with machine learning (e.g., neural networks, support vector machines, decision trees (CART), and meta-classification (boosting) will be viewed favorably).
Minimum Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document methods and results through preparation of reports, and to write statistical methods sections of manuscripts and grant applications
-Knowledge of statistical methods including regression techniques, propensity modelling, and multi-level analysis of clustered data.
-Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following statistical programming languages: (SAS, R, orSTATA)
-Interest and aptitude for learning and implementing new statistical methods
-Strong organization skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks and provide oversight for junior statisticians
Experience and skills in several of the following areas is desired:
-Experience working with large administrative datasets including medical billing datasets, state vital records and environmentally and spatially explicit datasets
-Experience with the analysis of population-level and genetic epidemiological study designs
-Experience in clinical trails and survey statistics
-Prior experience in a biomedical research setting
-Proficiency in conceptualizing tables and graphs from raw data, and convey publication data for scientific presentations and manuscripts
