The Department of Anthropology, University of Utah, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning July 1, 2018. We seek applicants with a record of original research and scientific publication who use genetic and genomic data to study human history, demography and/or adaptation. Relevant specialties include modern or ancientDNA, population genetics and the genetic basis of human adaptation and/or disease. Applicants should have a background in molecular biology, bioinformatics and/or population genetics and a demonstrated ability to generate extramural funding. Post-doctoral research in a modern and/or ancientDNAlaboratory and an active field research program will be considered strengths in the search process. Applicants are required to have a PhD in hand at the time of appointment.

The University of Utah’s Department of Anthropology has a strong evolutionary orientation. Candidates’ skills and interests should be consistent with the Anthropology Department`s strongly integrative, scientific, and quantitative scholarship in population, ecological, genetic, and evolutionary research. We seek a scholar who will integrate and complement existing strengths in our program and potentially work with existing faculty in the Department’s Archaeological Center and contribute to trans-disciplinary initiatives across the university. In Summer 2018, the Department will relocate to a new building featuring a suite of new anthropology laboratories for modern and ancientDNA, isotope, osteological, archaeological, archaeobotanical and zooarchaeological research.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in the field of human evolutionary genetics and anthropology, teach up to two courses in anthropology each semester, advise and mentor students, and participate in service to the department, college, and university.
