Nexteer Automotive Senior Systems Engineer - R&D in Saginaw, Michigan

Nexteer’s Research and Development department is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to serve as technical lead on strategic innovation projects. The ideal candidate will not only possess strong technical and interpersonal skills, but will also have a passion for new product innovation.

This position is located in Saginaw, MI.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical leadership for projects incorporating complex mechatronic systems

  • Understand and/or create system level requirements and flow down to sub-system level

  • Understand and/or develop the overall system design for complex mechatronics systems including, but not limited to, Electric Power Steering

  • Communicate system and sub-system requirements to multidisciplinary engineering team including mechanical, electrical, controls and software engineers

  • Use system level thinking to optimize overall product performance and project objectives

  • Perform system level tuning for optimal performance

  • Diagnose and correct anomalies and deficiencies in system behavior

  • Complete system verification to ensure that system level requirements are met

  • Utilize curiosity, creativity, and technical skills in the invention of new products, features, and functions to fuel Nexteer’s growth

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive engineering

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in systems engineering

  • Previous Electric Power Steering experience

  • General knowledge of electrical, mechanical, controls, and software engineering

  • Competency in vehicle system, mechanical systems, and electronic systems

  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to tailor to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Must enjoy and be skilled in both analytic and hands-on problem solving

  • Highly motivated with good time management skills

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with groups outside of R&D, including external customers

  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally

  • High degree of organization and accuracy in work details

  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple assignments simultaneously

  • Matlab/Simulink, and Labview, experience is strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with CAN, LIN and FlexRay is strongly preferred

  • Basic knowledge of C, C++ programming language preferred

Education:

Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Required

Master’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Desired
