DescriptionScope of Position:The Lab Assistant supports the laboratory team members in receiving, preparing, reading, recording and reporting histology samples. This includes communication with Pathologists, lab personnel and the sales force.ResponsibilitiesParticipate in accessioning by opening, verifying and delivering samplesData entry capturing of patient demographics and specimen identificationPerform instrument maintenance concurrent with training and competencyScan relevant paperworkGenerate Specimen CassettesIdentify, sort, prepare and package specimens for reference lab transportMaintain lab suppliesExhibit attention to details in specimen handlingMaintain clean work environmentMaintain instrument quality logsExhibit Good Documentation practices in printing/documenting reports/logs/paperworkPrepare slides for shipment to the clientsMaintains slide/block files in an orderly & timely mannerAbility to work on other tasks (assigned by supervisor) with minimal supervisionSupport other team members in their dutiesPerform Other duties as assignedRequired Experience:Must be capable of using a computer to include Laboratory Information System and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)Typing experience, 35+ wpm, preferredPrevious laboratory experience, preferredMedical terminology, preferredSkills and EducationHigh school diploma, requiredTwo-year college degree with 24 hours in biology & chemistry, preferredAbility to operate a computer keyboardAbility to sit for up to 4 hours at a time.Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.Ability to multi-task well.Attention to detail in dealing with multiple requisitions.EEO EmployerApex is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
