Job Description

Our Rochester, NY Interior Design Team is growing! We are looking for a Certified Project Interior Designer to join our NE team!

Purpose of Position:

To provide creative and technical solutions applied within an interior space to achieve enhanced aesthetics, functionality, and productivity to foster the occupant’s quality of life and meet overall business goals

Essential Functions:

The following duties are typical of the position, but are not all encompassing:

  • Make decisions independently regarding planning complexities and methods

  • Fully comprehend and assist in the creation of project scope and work plan, acting as liaison to client for Interior Design portion of projects

  • Collaborate with Project Manager and lead architects in design proposals for achieving defined scope of work

  • Establish design criteria and develop program requirements; create conceptual design, schematic design, design development & construction documents as well as specifications within project budget

  • Present design concepts to the client and participate in client meetings throughout the life of the project.

  • Oversee and/or participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, equipment (FF&E), materials, finishes, and lighting.

  • Conduct field inspections for all phases of design

  • Analyze and create reports, calculations, drawings, client programs, etc. in order to plan and design

  • Formulate design solutions for interior wall placement, millwork, lighting, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment appropriate to project requirements

  • Coordinate and collaborate with other in-house and outside consultant and design professionals

  • Conduct site visit for construction administration duties

  • Adhere to project budget and deadlines

  • Understand the impact of design on life, safety, and welfare of occupants and ensure design is compliant with code and documented accordingly

  • Ensure adherence to client and Bergmann design standards

  • Meet with current and establish new vendor and manufacturer’s representative relationships. Research new and innovative material technology and maintain Interior Design library and samples

  • Provide input for business development opportunities, marketing strategies.

  • Establish & maintain positive relationships with co-workers, support and build others on the team and across disciplines/offices

  • Be responsive to others and share information to improve efficiency and help others achieve goals; listen and engage in productive and critical debate

  • Suggest new ideas and processes; stay informed of developments in practice areas; view obstacles as opportunities

Job Requirements

Education, Experience, Certifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field from an accredited university, or equivalent combination of education/experience required; masters preferred

  • Minimum four years of experience in interior design

  • Certified Interior Designer (NCIDQ) or licensure as regulated by state

  • Proficient in use of Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Programs, and SketchUp

  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Ability to create 3D rendering helpful

  • LEED certification helpful

  • Ability to translate ideas graphically and visually
