As an Applications Engineer, you will be part of a team challenged to maintain and grow business with customers that heavily utilize complex optical assemblies. This is a new opportunity to work for a company that, over the past 40 years, has built a reputation as one of the premier optical assemblies manufactures in the world. We are a vertically integrated factory with onsite facilities for machine work, optical component fabrication, optical coatings, and advanced optical sub-assemblies. You will be challenged technically as you learn about our manufacturing capabilities and processes and work for hand in hand with engineers and technicians to enable you to collaborate with our customers’ engineers in creating manufacturable designs/prototypes. Commercially, you will analyze competitive situations and right price optical assemblies based on perceived value and market knowledge.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the primary technical liaison for assigned customers, and provide technical support and feedback and mechanical and/or optical models, drawings, and/or designs as required
Develop accurate information concerning prospect and customer needs, and effectively communicate said information to company decision makers and team members
Review quote requests with customers to ensure specifications and tolerances are complete; be able to communicate said specifications to engineering/operations to determine manufacturability
Prepare quote packages/cost worksheets and acceptance test documentation
Manage all engineering and quality documentation for purchase orders to ensure customer contract requirements are met within manufacturing
Communicate company and product values to prospective customers via formal and informal presentations, meetings and communications
Represent the company at trade shows, technical meetings, exhibitions, and workshops.
Other duties and responsibilities as required based on the company’s needs
Travel estimated to be 10% of the year
B.S. in optical sciences/engineering or B.S. in engineering or physics with concentration/minor in optical sciences
Practical experience with high energy lasers, optical components, and/or optomechanical system assemblies.
Experience with any of the following design interfaces: SolidWorks, Zemax OpticStudio®, CODE V, and/or any other modeling or optical design software
Minimum 2 years of sales, manufacturing, and/or design experience within the optics/photonics industry
Strong background and knowledge with the following design interfaces: SolidWorks and Zemax OpticStudio®
