Cytotechnologist Job ID 18-2287 Date posted 12/06/2018 Shift Days Shift Length 8 Hours Weekend Requirement None Hours Per Two Week Pay Period 80 Department Cytology Location Robbinsdale, Minnesota Description $2500 sign on bonus Microscopically evaluates (screens and interprets) gynecological and nongynecological cytologic preparations according to laboratory procedures and workload policies. Communicates abnormal or significant findings to the pathologist for review and reporting of cytologic results to meet the needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric customers. Accountabilities: * Follows established policies and procedures in carrying out job responsibilities. * Microscopically evaluates (screens and interprets) gynecological and nongynecological cytologic preparations according to laboratory procedures and workload policies. * Communicates abnormal or significant findings to the pathologist for review and reporting of cytologic results to meet the needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric customers. * Demonstrates technical skills as required to maintain competency. * Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory. * Gives direction and guidance to technical support personnel as needed. * Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals. * The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list. * The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list. Requirements Education * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university required. * Successful completion of a 12 month CAAHEP accredited Cytotechnology program required. Experience * Minimum of one year current cytology experience required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Able to microscopically evaluate (screens and interprets) gynecological and nongynecological cytologic preparations according to laboratory procedures and workload policies. * Able to make diagnostic decisions about normal versus benign, atypical, and abnormal cellular changes, inflammation, infection, and hormonal changes as well as decisions about specimen adequacy. * Able to accurately screen an average of 40 slides per day. * Ability to operate laboratory computer system as appropriate. * Able to assist pathologists and radiologists during fine needle aspiration procedures as needed, Includes smear preparation, fixation and staining. * Demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills.
