Job Summary

This role is fully competent in most aspects of the technical or engineering discipline supporting Dominion Energy's Electric Transmission Substation Communication Design.

Distinguished from the Technical Specialist II by the increased complexity in the application of technical or engineering skills and knowledge.

Applies knowledge and technical skills to provide technical project management, design and procurement of materials and technical direction to craft and contractor personnel.

Independently performs technical or engineering evaluations, calculations, analysis and design to support the requirements of the designated company area or specific discipline.

Provides expert technical support, direction and advice in analyzing and evaluating plant systems, equipment and programs.

Responsibilities include the development of new programs needed for maintenance or production.

Provides technical project management including scoping, scheduling, budget development, cost tracking and technical oversight.

Utilizes computer technology in analysis of operating performance data to verify plant systems/components are operated and maintained as required by company policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.

Develop application specific configuration files for Electric Substation data communications equipment including data concentrators, I/O processors, and protocol converters.

Provide documentation of Electric Substation monitoring and telemetry equipment data point mapping to SCADA programmers to be used as basis for Operating Center display Configurations.

Performs technical evaluations of events and root cause analysis to recommend corrective action.

Prepares correspondence and interfaces with regulatory agencies regarding technical or engineering issues.

Analyzes plant operation performance and prepares industry reports.

This role does not function as a technician in modifying, operating or maintaining systems or equipment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum 5 years of directly-related experience

In-depth knowledge of operation, maintenance and technical design applications

In-depth knowledge of design and operation of complex systems and equipment which may be indicated by advanced certification of licenses

In-depth knowledge of engineering theories and principles In-depth knowledge of industry codes, government regulations and company policy and practices

Equally effective working independently or in a team environment

Strong oral and written communication skills to include skill in technical writing

Working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs

Excellent organization and project management, skilled in evaluation techniques

Ability to perform root cause analysis to determine the most probable cause of problems and undesired events

Strong analytical and abstract thinking problem solving skills, ability to process information quickly

Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel

Education Requirements

Preferred Education Level: Bachelors Degree.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education
