Job Details:

VCU Health System's Business Office - Coding Svcs-Proce is seeking a full time Medical Coder III to support Inpatient Provider Coding. This person translates provider documentation and/or reports and makes the determination as to the appropriate CPT and/or ICD-9/10 codes for billing of services rendered by physicians. Ensures compliance with all insurance guidelines and state and federal regulations regarding physicians' documentation of services. Enters charges into TES/PARS assuring that all services are coded and billed accurately, timely and ensures maximum reimbursement. Assists reimbursement personnel by providing information regarding resolution of payment denials.

Responsibilities

Analyzes and interprets patient medical records, encounter sheets and/or reports in order to assign and sequence appropriate codes upon review of the billing information, determines course of action and organizes and prioritizes work

Seeks advice and guidance from Manager, Physician or other content expert as needed

Qualifications

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent

Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Procedural Coders

or

Certified Coding Specialist Physician-based (CCS-P) by the American Health Information Management Association or

Equivalent/comparable coding certification

Minimum of (3) years of third party medical billing and coding experience from a narrative/report format

Previous work experience using a personal computer and various billing/coding software applications

Previous work experience using a personal computer and various software applications, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), e-mail, etc.

Preferred

Previous work experience in reimbursement practices and procedures
