POSITION SUMMARY

Assists in the care of hospice patients by providing a variety of non-skilled health and personal care services, as assigned by the supervising nurse and/or Director of Hospice. Work is performed independently where procedures have been established and directions have been given by RN for patient care, but independent judgment must be exercised based on the conditions present at the time of the patient visit.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Work requires a high school level of knowledge of reading, writing and simple arithmetic. Requires the ability to understand, carry out and communicate detailed instructions and procedures and to accurately complete various forms and records.

  2. Individuals providing hospice aide services to hospice patients shall be qualified by one of the following means to meet licensure requirements in the state of Virginia:

a) Hold a certificate of completion from an approved nurse aide training program and be registered by the Virginia Department of Health Professions as a Certified Nurse Aide.

b)Hold a certificate of completion from a professional nursing, practical nursing or nurse aide training program approved by the Virginia Community College System or the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

c)Hold a certificate of completion from a home health aide training program approved by the Department of Health prior to July 1, 1984.
