SC Department of Public Safety Statistician III in Richland County, South Carolina
Performs detailed statistical analysis and research on traffic records data using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) and other software. Prepares and responds to ad hoc and routine statistical requests in a timely manner. Presents findings in a comprehensive report form (both written and verbal).
Manages the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) area of SARS. Performs administrative functions associated with the FARS program; including assisting with the preparation of the FARS budget, preparing documentation for FARS-related travel, updating the FARS Procedure Manual, responding to requests from the FARS Headquarters, and preparing documents/reports.
Assists in the development of the annual Highway Safety Plan, Problem Identification, and other projects as needed. Writes SAS code to assist in the development of these projects.
Retrieves and evaluates data from multiple sources; identifies, documents, and analyzes discrepancies. Takes corrective actions to correct and/or prevent future data quality issues.
Works with members of the Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs (OHSJP) and State Transport Police (STP) to ensure data quality metrics are met for Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) and to insure data accuracy between MCMIS and ReportBeam.
Prepares EPMS and Planning Stage for subordinate in an accurate and timely manner.
Performs other duties as assigned by the OHSJP Director, Highway Safety Program Administrator, or the Statistical Analysis & Research Manager.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree with statistical courses and experience in statistics.
A bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related field. Knowledge of inferential and descriptive statistics. Knowledge of statistical software, in particular SAS. Knowledge of research practices and procedures. Ability to design complex research studies, including all methods and procedures for the collection, sampling, maintenance, analysis and presentation of information. Ability to analyze and interpret data using inferential statistical techniques. Ability to present information effectively, including the ability to explain technical/statistical matters to persons without statistical expertise. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Supervisory experience preferred.
The employee works under minimal supervision in performing job tasks. Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel is required.
