Research Engineer-Precision Mechanical and Electrical Assemblies
SRI International has an immediate opening for a Research Engineer at our Princeton, NJ location working on a variety of technical topics spanning advanced electronic, optical/photonic and quantum sensing programs. The campus is minutes from downtown Princeton and our location in Central NJ means New York, Philadelphia, the beach, the mountains and more are just a car or train ride away!
The position will be part of a close-knit team working on leading-edge projects for our government and commercial customers. The candidate will be involved in areas spanning from wafer-level fabrication processes, machining and fabrication of very small components and subsystems, as well as the assembly and characterization of complex experimental set-ups and prototype systems. Example project tasks can involve items such as precision dicing and machining, precision wafer bonding, novel electronic and optical materials applications, detailed assembly under microscopes, as well as lab-bench precision optical and quantum sensing prototypes.
The candidate will work with experienced group members and should be able to grow into contributing at the individual level over time, with expected guidance from more senior group members.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with hands on experience a plus. Emerging talent welcome to apply!

Skills could include a subset of:
Hands-on experience, which could include laboratory, cleanroom, and/or model shop experience
Familiar with common test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, network analyzers, probe stations
Experienced with basic shop equipment and tools
Basic electronics and circuits understanding and ability to solder
Physical measurement and instrumentation
Experience characterizing/testing electronic, photonic or semiconductor devices
Ability to assemble sub-miniature parts to large scale parts
Machining and CAD experience a plus.
Strong mechanical intuition
Good deductive reasoning skills
Strong communications skills
Able and motivated to learn new tasks, and bring tasks to completion
An interest in multiple technical areas
Able to work in a team environment
Must possess a results-oriented approach
