The Business Intelligence Analyst will assist in developing analytical models and dashboards that transform mass amounts of data into information that answers critical questions presented by business units. The Analyst will be a subject matter expert in various data tool sets and contribute to enabling analytics across the organization. This includes responsibility for report creation of operational data using standard reporting tools such as Tableau, Excel, and SQL to access and compile analytics for key performance metrics and critical measures.

Report-writing SQL knowledge. We use SQL Server and would need someone familiar with the various Microsoft relational database products (primarily SSMS and SSRS). We don’t need someone skilled in ETL processes or writing stored procedures, but we do need someone competent at writing typical reporting SELECT statements utilizing table joins, subqueries, etc.

We need someone familiar with creating reports in Tableau utilizing both custom SQL data sources as well as published Tableau Server data sources. Familiarity with the Tableau server environment and the ability to trace published data sources back to their original SQL in order to troubleshoot the SQL code would be extremely helpful.

We also need someone with familiarity writing SSRS reports from scratch, and troubleshooting existing SSRS reports from both the data source and dataset side of it as well as the display side of it.

Familiarity with the concepts of Kimball-style data warehousing concepts would be a plus, but not a requirement.

Finally, on the non-technology side, our ideal contractor would be someone comfortable asking questions instead of making assumptions, and someone extremely detail-oriented. There will be a lot of tedious troubleshooting of numbers not matching between systems, etc., and we need someone willing to push through long, complicated research projects to make sure the final reports are accurate. Someone comfortable working with users to gather requirements and to gather a business-perspective when troubleshooting discrepancies would be extremely helpful.
