Precision Castparts Corp. Automation Manager M&T - Division in Portland, Oregon


This position works within the Materials & Technology group. The incumbent is responsible for project planning, technical problem solving, process engineering, defect reduction, quality engineering, including improvement activities. Provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of products, processes, plans and procedures relating to automation and robotics. Plans and directs automation and robotics projects concerned with unique and diverse problems which have an important effect on major programs or products within the company. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.


• Participate in the concurrent engineering process internally and externally with customers. • Responsible for preparing process specifications, requirements compliance, and customer interface on production information for manufacturing. • Interaction with customers • Must have or acquire adequate SIX Sigma knowledge or training. • Time management of multiple projects. • Must be able to lead a diverse group (engineers, technicians, sales, manufacturing). • Be responsible for annual cost savings projects totaling 3x the employee’s salary. • Be able to handle long-term, multi-year projects with short-term, high pressure projects. • Must show capability to maintain, or create, and supervise a group of engineers and technicians that are able to perform in a team environment while personal accountability and individual growth is encouraged.


• Requires a BS degree in engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience or an MS degree in engineering with 5-7 years of relevant experience. Minor or AS in computer science is preferred. • Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, computer science engineering along with investment casting technology. • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in engineering principles and disciplines; employed manufacturing processes; statistical analysis (data correlation); technical report and article preparation; preparing specifications; ability to define, plan, and complete major projects; ability to supervise/direct activities of professionals with diverse expertise • Experience with design of robotic systems, safety assessments, machine vision systems, CAD/CAM software, robotic simulation software, Statistical programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Solidworks, Unigraphics or Catia skills, computer programming is preferred. • Must have knowledge of investment casting process, typical defects, and production methods used in the investment casting industry.
