The Patient Safety Instructors assist in providing students with simulation experience to enhance their clinical knowledge and skills during hospital clerkship rotations. Students learn to apply their medical knowledge and competencies in a clinical context. Offered in Far Rockaway, NY; Pontiac, MI; Los Angeles, CA; students in clinical clerkships are learning through an interactive simulation and standardized patient care component and a bedside direct patient-care component. We teach third and fourth year medical students.
We are currently seeking applicants to start in September 2019 and continue through May 2020. Responsibilities include assisting program faculty and staff in all areas of instruction, administration and other activities as assigned. These areas include, but are not limited to, test question design, proctoring exams, instructing students on Physical Examination techniques, providing guidance on history-taking, write-ups, SOAP notes, simulation, skills lab, participating in grading process as directed. Candidates are expected to be in the office Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and available Monday through Sunday as needed, evenings included.
Assist with instruction: teach OSCE/standardized patient formative and summative exercises, simulation and skills lab sessions, provide guidance on history-taking, write-ups, SOAP notes, design test questions and proctor exams
Assist in grading process as directed
Assist with other instructional activities, as assigned by Program Director/Manager and/or Faculty
Available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, as well as some evenings and weekends
Attend training sessions to become skilled in evaluating student performance
Attend and facilitate small group sessions with assigned group of students
Serve as mentors to a cohort of students, maintaining close communication with each student and providing guidance in all aspects of their performance, including visits to clinical sites
Weekend travel for mock CS examinations or information seminars as needed
Must be a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine
Must have an M.D. degree and completed all clinical rotations
Must have graduated within twelve months prior to the start date of the position
Must have obtained a passing score on first attempt on all three USMLE examinations (Step 1, Step 2 CK and CS)
Satisfactory (or better) grade in 5th semester, preferably, to have been undertaken in the Miami program
Satisfactory (or better) grades in all subsequent activities undertaken as RUSM student, including performance on NBME qualifying exams
Strong teaching skills and experience; or evidence of potential
Must work well on a team and show flexibility
Excellent communication skills in English
