We are seeking an experience, high caliber Machinist. This position is responsible for working under close supervision, sets up and operates manual machine shop equipment as well as Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment. Takes initiative to ensure work is done accurately and completely. Applies existing work methods to different known situations. Problems involve recurring, routine situations; usually refers more complex problems to supervisor or more senior level personnel.

Impact this role will have on Abbott:

  • Accomplished user of Mastercam program software in vertical machining centers

  • Experience with CNC Programing in a remote setting/ off-line

  • Organization experience with CNC Program storage / Tool libraries / Machine posts

  • CNC milling experience, 3+1 experience a plus. Haas and Fanuc preferred

  • Working knowledge of Feeds and speeds for different materials/ tooling

  • Willingness to train others in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to backfill for missing machinists

  • Demonstrated willingness to provide CNC programs to others

  • Reads blueprints and measurement devices like micrometers and calipers to produce tooling or equipment that is used for the manufacture of medical devices.

  • Determines best operations and sequences to produce tooling components.

  • Performs tasks which regularly involve the use of good correctable vision and excellent hand/eye coordination.

  • Responsible for maintaining the machine shop equipment so it will be usable and accurate for continued service.

  • May set-up/utilize special test equipment.

  • Notifies supervisor of the need to replenish supplies/materials and of any production difficulties that cannot be readily corrected.

  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbott’s marketplace success:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • AA degree in Industrial Arts or comparable specialized training in a formal machine shop apprentice program is desired.

  • Typically a minimum of 5 or more years of directly relevant manual machine shop equipment and CNC machining experience.

  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.

  • Must have the ability to read moderately complex blueprints in order to determine the best method for manufacturing various components, and the ability to use, operate and apply a range of precision inspection instruments and devices including (but not limited to) micrometers, calipers, and height gages.

  • Requires the ability to work cooperatively and productively with others.

  • Must be able to multi-task.

  • Must also be able to meet deadlines on multiple projects.

  • Incumbents are required to have demonstrated spelling, punctuation, grammar, basic math/numerical, organizational skills, and a familiarity with standard manufacturing/office equipment and procedures. The ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English is also required; this requirement includes clear, understandable speech and demonstrated comprehension skills.

  • The ability to successfully pass a reading comprehension pre-employment examination is mandatory.

  • Must have the ability to on occasion lift up to approximately 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

  • Occasional overtime is a requirement of this position.
