Job Description

The Senior Transportation Analyst position provides support for the management of transportation cost, service, and quality related to the manufacturing divisions of Thermo Fisher Scientific, located in the Americas Region. Areas of support include, but are not limited to transportation analytics, metrics and measures, mode optimization, decision support transportation spend optimization, carrier selection and routing processes, transportation inputs to inventory stocking strategies, network optimization analysis, and contract negotiation analytics/ decision support. The Senior Transportation Analyst is responsible for the reporting of transportation performance and results utilizing various data sources such as freight audit-and-pay transactions, transportation scorecards and various other data elements located in our global data warehouses. The Senior Transportation Analyst is responsible and accountable for delivering a targeted amount cost savings through various assigned projects and of process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the Global Transportation Team, the Senior Transportation Analyst is responsible for insights and variance analysis for monthly service, quality, and spend relative to respective stated goals and objectives. Maintain, manage and report transportation metrics for service, quality, and spend. Prepare and report divisional transportation spend scorecards. Generate cost benefit analysis for operations re-engineering projects. Analyze shifts, spikes, and trends on transportation scorecards to generate cost savings initiatives. Utilize software applications (SQL Server, Access, Excel etc.) to develop department-wide tools for transportation reporting metrics. Adapt and collaborate best practices with company divisions to achieve supply chain alignment and best practice methodology. Prepare Monthly Business Review (MBR) materials. Execute quantitative analysis to solve problems, overcome constraints and measure the impact of project initiatives. Perform Analytics and cost studies in support of carrier negotiations and rate proposals. Support EDI shipment level detail from our suppliers to our data warehouses. Reliably manage weekly/monthly reports for: service, bi-weekly updates, monthly business reviews, staff meetings, etc. Collaborate with third party freight Payment Company. Prepare analysis on shipment level bills to ensure contract compliance on all carriers. Development of new metrics to drive best practice methodology for cost, service and quality. Generate budget analysis and monthly reporting of operational and financial metrics. Performs other duties as assigned. Perform transportation network optimization studies. Accountable for Process improvement annual savings of at least $500,000. The successful candidate will proactively provide leadership with data driven conclusions, recommendations and next analytical steps in support of operational and cost performance improvement.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

Excel, Access, SQL, Data warehouse familiarity. Advanced Excel techniques (pivot table, VBA Code, etc) are a plus PC, server and mainframe system familiarity. Bachelor’s degree in business related discipline required (logistics, quantitative business analysis, management information systems, or related field of study). 4+ years relevant experience, preferably in a high volume, multi-location manufacturing/ distribution environment, with a focus on transportation analytics and execution optimization. Detailed-oriented with the ability to analyze / understand a large volume of data. Experience preferred with Visio, MapPoint, CzarLite, SQL, Visual Basic, and Batchmark. APICS certification preferred.

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

Excel, Access, Data warehouse, and familiarity. Bachelor’s degree in business related discipline required (logistics, quantitative business analysis, management information systems, or related field of study). Advanced analytical and problem solving abilities. Demonstrated experience in analyzing significant amounts of data and turning it into actionable information. Demonstrated ability to independently take ownership of initiatives and drive execution. Sense of urgency and priority. Excellent interpersonal skills to apply in communications with business partners, corporate divisions and business units.
