Position Description :

Obtains all health plan requirements including referrals, precertification’s, medical authorizations and other insurance specific requirements to ensure financial secured reimbursements for the Hospital, Ancillary Services and the Department for surgical services. File and coordinate insurance appeals for procedures which require pre-day prior to surgery, inpatient admissions, medical necessities and clinical trials. Advises managers, physicians and hospital business office of all financial issues which may be problematic.

• Enforces Health System policies regarding financially securing patients through insurance plans, single payer agreements (SPAs), self-pay packages, applications for state-aid, or Charity Care.

• Implements improvement plans and follows through with UPHS and Insurance industry policies.

• Conducts daily review of problem accounts and provides resolution.

• Ability to accurately and consistently interpret and readily explain various healthcare insurance plan coverages, benefits and patient pay responsibilities.

• Accurately detect benefit exclusions and research alternative methods of payment

• Performance will make a direct impact on Department of Surgery and Hospital of University of PA reimbursement and bad debt performances.

Minimum Requirements :

Two to five years’ healthcare experience and/or education required. Preferably experience in physician practice, business office and/or financial area with demonstrated knowledge of third party carrier coverage and benefit guidelines is essential. Customer Service experience is required. Advanced training or Bachelors degree preferred.
