Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire Care Coordinator – Breast Cancer who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Department Profile:

The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute serves more cancer patients than any other health system in Florida. We provide a comprehensive continuum of services ranging from disease prediction and prevention to state-of-the-art detection, treatment and research. Patients have convenient access to the latest in medical and radiation oncology, patient support and education programs, and a dedicated team of highly-qualified physicians and certified oncology nurses. The Oncology practice at Florida Hospital Orlando provides the best in compassionate and positive faith-based care. Our 39-bed Medical Oncology unit provides chemotherapy and symptom management for the adult oncology patient population. The 39-bed Surgical/GYN Oncology unit is specifically trained to meet the complex physical and psychosocial needs of oncology patients during the post operative period. This unit specializes in care of the GYN Oncology population during all phases of their disease process. The Oncology Progressive Care area provides care for patients with an oncology diagnosis that require upper level monitoring and care from Critical Care trained nurses to include high dose chemotherapy, cardiac drips, and respiratory management for the PCU-level patient. The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit team is dedicated to complex specialized care of critically ill, adult and pediatric peripheral blood stem cell and bone marrow transplant, leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma patients. Chemotherapy is also provided on the 16-bed unit.

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Job Summary:

The Urologic Cancer Care Coordinator supports patients in navigating the oncology medical system. Serves as a primary point of intake; assuring patients have appropriate and timely medical and supportive services on an ongoing basis. In addition, this position supports data collection, tumor board processes/participation, and marketing/community outreach efforts. Serves as an educational resource for patients undergoing initial treatment, as well as patients undergoing changes to existing treatment. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to provide age appropriate cancer education

  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer relation skills

  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize in-house and external oncology resources

  • Ability to multitask and function in a stressful, fast-paced environment

  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Access (Preferred)

  • Three years of experience in Oncology Nursing, or urologic nursing practice

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degrees in Nursing (Preferred)

  • Five years of experience in Oncology Nursing or urologic cancer nursing practice (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse

  • BLS

  • National Certification: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates an evidence-based, multidisciplinary, multispecialty approach to cancer care throughout the care continuum. Navigates care for newly diagnosed Urologic Cancer patients and as needed for patients recommended for biopsy.

  • Collaborates with supervisor in navigating patients (needs ranging from minimal to complex) from the diagnostic phase through treatment planning, medical management, and surveillance/ survivorship assuring patients have appropriate, timely, medical, and supportive services.

  • Completes accurate data collection with all appropriate information in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Remains current in evidence-based cancer practice and new emerging trends in area of cancer specialty.

  • Participates in and supports (per direction of supervisor) Tumor Boards, Journal Clubs, and other physician education venues. Involvement with these programs may include preparing patient history/ summary, requesting pathology and radiology reports, operating technical equipment, following up with physician team regarding treatment recommendation, etc. Participates in Urologic Cancer Program Leadership Committee.

  • Serves as an educational resource for patients undergoing initial treatment, as well as patients undergoing changes to existing treatment. Supports patient/family education programs providing both one-on-one sessions and group forums. Provides patient/family education for chemotherapy and biotherapy including mechanism of action, expected side effect management, and tumor site specific information.

  • Supports program awareness within the physician community and community at large. Supports prostate screening initiatives collaborating with FH Marketing and Community Partners.

  • Develops appropriate relationships to maximize patient experience across departmental, campus, and physician/provider lines.
