Position Summary

Assist the physician with the examination and treatment of patient's and perform routine tasks needed to keep the clinical office running smoothly.

Job Responsibilities

Ø Understanding of electronic charting to include scanning, indexing, preloading, workflow boxes, adding patient orders, recording each part of the patients visit.

Ø Understanding of electronic patient's orders and Escribe

Ø Greets patients and escorts them to the examination and/or procedure rooms.

Ø Takes vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature) as well as weight and height; accurately transcribe results in patient's electronic chart.

Ø Assists in completion of forms required by physician prior to examination (e.g., health questionnaires; medical history, etc.).

Ø Removes catheters, dressings and staples as required, prepares patient for examination, test(s) or procedure(s).

Ø Provides instructions when appropriate; obtain signed consent forms when required.

Ø Sets-up procedure tray(s).

Ø Notifies the physician when patient is ready for examination.

Ø Assists physician with examinations and procedures as noted. Prepare, document, and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.

Ø Labels urine samples including packaging of specimens for shipment to appropriate outside labs.

Ø Maintains and restocks clinical supplies for back office (e.g., examination and procedure rooms) in addition to inventory control and generating monthly inventory list.

Ø Organizes and keeps a running inventory of medications in med rooms and refrigerator (routinely disposing of expired medications as warranted).

Ø Cleans and scrubs down rooms and counter tops per clinical policy.

Ø Cleans packages and sterilizes instruments and procedure supplies (forceps, etc.)

Ø Tracks all lab results, (e.g., calling for cultures, blood type and lab information) and documents and initials results in chart when copy is not available.

Ø Adhere to OSHA guidelines.

Ø Handles prescription calls off voice mail throughout the day and responds within given timeframes.

Ø Follows Physician to the Surgery Center on Main II to assist with patient procedures ( description of procedures attached).

Back Office: Clinical Staff working with physicians.

Ø Maintains daily lab and procedure logs, supplies patient insurance information to lab within 24 hours of test.

Ø Charts.

Ø Record services rendered on fee tickets (lab, etc.) and checks for accuracy.

Ø Highlight physician notes for ancillary tests, surgeries or specialist referrals ordered and schedule as directed.

Ø Direct patient to checkout counter.

Ø Perform any other services deemed reasonable by physician or supervisor.

Qualifications

Experience and Education: High school graduate or equivalent; completion of a recognized medical assisting program and certification required.

Knowledge Of: Modern operational methods germane to a medical practice; clerical equipment, operations and processes, must have basic understanding of medical terms and abbreviations; usage of computer systems; the mechanics of HMOs, IPAs, and PPOs; various medical forms, reports and processing methods; possess a fundamental knowledge of basic billing procedures; individuals working in front office must have a clear understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the patient/physician relationship.

Ability To: Make a great first impression and sustain it, answer multiline telephones, type at least 50 WPM and operate a 10-key adding machine by touch; operate or learn to operate automated systems personal computers and fax machines; employ tact, diplomacy and compassion with all types of people; communicate well irrespective of the medium; exhibit strong interpersonal skills; maintained cooperative relationships with staff members, patients and physicians; communicate clearly and concisely; process a variety of medical reports and correspondence; follow set routines and be to variations and make decisions accordingly; persons working in this position must maintain organized and accurate records; exercise team coordination skills; serve as patient advocate; understand and enforce the financial policy of the practice and recognize correct costly data capture errors.
