SAIC Fleet Synthetic Training Shipboard Technical Support Network Engineer, Afloat Training Group, Atlantic (ATGL) in NORFOLK, Virginia
The Defense Systems Customer Group currently has a career opportunity for a Network Engineer to support U.S. Navy Fleet Synthetic Training (FST) in the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) as a shipboard installer and trainer in Norfolk, Virginia. To be considered for this position, a candidate must have an active DOD Secret clearance and current CompTIA Security+ certification with Continuing Education (CE).
The Network Engineer will be responsible for establishing and maintaining shipboard connectivity to the NCTE and of all required NCTE network equipment on fleet units participating in FST and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) events.
Other functional area duties include:
Assist ships/shore facilities in the FSTarchitecture configuration and use of communications, C4I, tactical data links,Navy combat systems, SQQ 89 OBT, Battle Force Tactical Training (BFTT), BFTTElectronic Warfare Trainer (BEWT), Global Command and Control (GCCS),Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC), Aegis Combat Training System (ACTS)and Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) training systems.
Transport all necessary equipment tomultiple locations and participating ships.
Provide organizational and technicalassistance to exercise development and execution. Liaise with shipboardtechnical leads for scheduling of equipment install/de-install.
Integrate shipboard combat systemswith the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) architecture using variousFiber Optic and Ethernet networks. Install and assist withtroubleshooting for all NCTE pack up equipment onboard U.S. Naval Ships andshore sites to includeCisco Voice overIP Phones (VoIP), BFTT Electronic Warfare Trainer II (BEWT/BEWT II) Pack-upEquipment Kit (PEK), CEC Integrated Trainer (CIT) PEK, Virtual Carrier Platform(VCP), Tactical Data Analysis and Connectivity System (TDACS), and laptops.
Support the configuring, loading,and updating of shipboard cryptographic software for the KG-175D (TacticalLocal Area Network Encryption) systems.
Maintain all installed Ethernet andFiber Optic LANs to include fabrication and repair of fiber/Ethernet.
Support crypto installationrequirements for ships in all FST/BMD events.
Prepare After Action Reports (AAR)and any in-process/recommendations for improvement in support of FleetSynthetic Training events and exercises.
The candidate must have the ability to operate independently without constant supervision, exhibit superior analytical skills, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
REQUIRED BACKGROUND / EDUCATION / SKILLS:
Must be a U.S. citizen with aSecret clearance.
Bachelor of Arts or Science degree(or additional two years of technical support experience for a total of fiveyears equivalent experience). with
Three (3) years of technicalsupport experience, including two (2) years of functional area experience withNavy communications systems, tactical data links, Navy combatsystems, BFTT, BEWT, GCCS, CEC, ACTS, and network engineering.
Ability to assist in the planningand execution of shipboard installations and training for all NCTE pack-upequipment aboard U.S. naval ships and shore sites.
Must have current CompTIA SecurityPlus certification with CE in accordance with DoD 8570.01 series guidelines tomeet Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II compliance requirements.
DESIRED BACKGROUND / SKILLS:
Experience with the JSAF trainingsystem.
Experience as Combat SystemsTraining Team member.
Designation as Afloat TrainingSpecialist/Master Training Specialist.
Recentexperience with shore and shipboard training exercises, FST distributed events,and exercise/event planning.
Abilityto provide technical, engineering, and analytical expertise forsimulation-driven synthetic training and integration of training technologieswith live training events.
LinuxPlus Operating System and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)certification.
CiscoCertified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and/or Cisco Certified NetworkAssociate (CCNA) certification.
