Position Summary

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a full-time Technician B to join the Laryngology Research Laboratory at CUIMC, and participate in innovative nerve regeneration research investigating axon guidance and vocal fold proprioception with the goal of treating vocal fold paralysis. Enthusiastic and committed, the technician will need to demonstrate proficiency in working in a cleanroom environment using aseptic basic science techniques with animal subjects.


  • Preparing materials for and assisting in experiments

  • Carrying out the activities related to the maintenance of rat and mice colonies

  • Assisting in surgeries performed to rats and mice

  • Performing IP injections, and tissue dissection

  • Sectioning of tissue samples using a cryostat

  • Performing a variety of techniques of molecular biology independent of direct supervision including immunohistochemistry, “in situ” hybridization, qRT-PCR, or Western Blots

  • Carrying out tissue and organotopic culture of rat embryological neural tissue

  • Performing genetic modification of rat neuron expression with different vectors

  • Preparing solutions and cultures

  • Making necessary analysis and calculations, recording data and writing reports on research findings

  • Maintaining a lab notebook or records related to task

  • Performing other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory, research project or work unit

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, related science, animal husbandry program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-year experience in an academic laboratory setting

Other Requirements

  • Research Animals- IACUC Research Animal Training

  • HIPAA compliance required
