The Basic Science Research Group of the Department of Dermatology at Columbia University seeks a skilled research assistant to join laboratory research efforts. The laboratory investigates the role of lipids as T cell antigens in human epithelial immunity. The research assistant will work closely with the PI and postdoctoral research fellows to plan and execute experiments related to this project.
Primary responsibilities include:
Sterile processing of human tissue and blood, isolation of lymphocytes, and cryopreservation.
in vitro T cell culture, T cell stimulation assays, analysis of T cell activation using flow cytometry, Elispot, ELISA, real-time PCR. Basic molecular biology techniques.
Setting up and optimizing new protocols for use in the lab.
Maintaining detailed records of all lab activities including the planned experiments
Ordering of supplies and other duties necessary to the functioning of research projects.

Bachelor's degree in laboratory science (Biology, Chemistry, etc.). or equivalent in education, training, and experience.
The candidate must be familiar with basic laboratory techniques, including sterile cell culture, and have the ability to keep accurate records of experimental results and to work independently. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
- Relevant laboratory experience. Prior experience with flow cytometry techniques, molecular biology techniques, and immunoassays are a plus. The desired candidate has strong organizational and communication skills, is detail oriented and self-motivated.
