Intercept Pharmaceuticals Senior Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Lead (Pharma, R&D, Medical Affairs) in New York, New York

Job Descriptions:

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and executing global sourcing strategies ensuring the delivery of the Research pipeline on budget and quality whilst also spotting opportunities to accelerate delivery. Essential to your success, will be your ability to conduct data and financial analyzes, manage projects and ensure timely and effective communication with Internal Stakeholders, Procurement team, Finance and Leadership. You will work under the general direction of the Associate Director, Procurement and work closely with Procurement management and staff.

This is a fantastic challenge for you to unify the business needs of very different stakeholders within Medical Affairs and Commercial Operations. It is an opportunity to work with business leaders in these departments at Senior Vice-President and Director level increasing trust and improving cost transparency from project budget elaboration to project completion.

The impact of your role will go beyond Medical Affairs, providing commercial benefits by supporting product launch and lifecycle management - both of which are critical to increasing product revenues.

Ideal Candidate will drive substantial and incremental value through the development and implementation of innovative sourcing and demand management strategies for Professional Services categories of spend through various departments including Market Research and Medical Affairs to name a few.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage spend by creating comprehensive global sourcing strategies for Medical Affairs and other Research departments operating with a truly global and strategic mindset.

  • Build strategic relationships with a network of Intercept global stakeholders to understand business requirements, identify opportunities to create value and to position Procurement's value proposition. Align sourcing strategies accordingly.

  • Deliver global benefits identified in strategies through effective strategy execution, aligned to assurance of supply (risk management), compliance, quality, service, cost and innovation.

  • Activities include requirements gathering, market analysis, qualifying and selecting suppliers with the relevant Business Partners/stakeholders in accordance with the approved strategy of integrating 3rd party expertise to drive procurement through fundamental business and market analysis, work with departmental leadership and Global Category Head to identify potential markets, establish functional teams and implement effective supply models as appropriate. Drive best practices sharing across the divisions.

  • Develop and implement sourcing and demand management strategies for various Professional Services categories of spend. The strategies fully leverage Company’s spend across all divisions in accordance with Company policy and procedures, in line with Company standards and local Company stakeholder requirements.

  • Establish, maintain and develop a strong national, regional, and global strategic sourcing network and strong relationships with the internal stakeholder customer community to challenge existing practices, to drive for innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure high level of senior key stakeholder support in spend category through implementation of approved sourcing and demand management processes and communication of sourcing value proposition across US locations.

  • Act as a pro-active point of contact for 3rd party suppliers and internal stakeholders representing all Company functions and divisions.

  • Makes good recommendations based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment. Relates well to all kinds of people at all levels, inside and outside the organization.

  • Develops and maintains project plans for a range of Procurement and category initiatives

  • Coordinates and monitors efforts and resources, both internal and external against defined timelines & milestones

  • Understands key issues, communicates and synthesizes ideas.

  • Conducts and oversees financial and data analyses to support projects & Procurement priorities

  • Completes status reports and presents deliverables to Procurement leadership team members

  • Manages and facilitates work team activities

  • Identifies process improvement opportunities through Lean Six Sigma and process review activities

  • Schedules and facilitates project meetings, tracks impact and issue documents.

  • Recognizes technical, business, and operational impacts of a project.

  • Escalates issues or concerns accordingly.

Required Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in, Business Administration, Marketing, Finance or related field.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Category Management and Strategic Sourcing working in/for large organizations or systems

  • Experience in Pharma, R&D and/or Medical Affairs

  • Experience with project management methodologies and tools for large scale, complex projects.

  • A proven track record in driving complex, multi-functional projects and large change management initiatives, focused on measurable, compliance with requirements and client satisfaction.

  • Strong commercial background including contract management, best sourcing practices and specific category knowledge.

  • Proficient use of project management, Excel, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sourcing project management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration or Master's in Science or Healthcare related field.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) or other recognized certification.

  • Experience in Category Management and Strategic Sourcing working in/for large health care organizations or systems

  • Experience with Six Sigma and or process improvement methodologies

  • Experience with enterprise SCM and Finance technologies, such as SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Hyperion, etc.
