Position Titles: Associate in Clinical/Instructor/Assistant Professor level position in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC)

Job Description: The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a social worker or psychologist assigned to work at the Psycho-Oncology Program at CUMC. This is a full-time, clinical position working closely with the oncology team. The position entails treating patients primarily in an outpatient setting, although there will be some inpatient clinical care as well. Primary responsibilities involve the screening and assessment of patients as well as individual, family and group psychotherapy. The emphasis of the clinical work will be on pain management, as well as anxiety, grief and trauma related to medical conditions. This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary oncology team and participate in program development.

This position requires a minimum of 3 years working in medical/surgical settings with chronically ill patients. Experience working with oncology patients is strongly preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated interest, experience and training in evidence-supported treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Applicants should have leadership potential, as well as strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well across disciplines and function effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  1. Candidate(s) will conduct intake evaluations/diagnostic assessments of oncology patients with psychiatric disorders and psychological distress.
  2. Candidate(s) will provide individual, family and group psychotherapy.
  3. Candidate(s) will work closely with a multidisciplinary oncology team.
  4. Candidate(s) will have opportunities to attend case conferences and Grand Rounds at CUMC. Opportunities may exist for clinical supervision, peer supervision and teaching.

Minimum Educational Requirements: PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
NYS license required. For psychologists: Instructor level requires graduation from an APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology, and completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship program. Assistant Professor level requires 2-3 years clinical experience in a hospital or private practice setting.
