Summary Description: The Department of Medicine and the Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) are seeking to fill an Assistant Professor level position, non-tenure track, to fulfill the role of Director of Animal Genetic Engineering within the CCTI. Successful candidate will be responsible for developing porcine models using gene transduction, somatic cell gene targeting and nuclear transfer. Candidate will collaborate with CCTI immunologists and their collaborators in large animal allotransplantation and xenotransplantation studies, preparing hematopoietic cells for transplantation and carrying out studies of porcine molecular biology and molecular incompatibilities between species as well as assessments of the biological effects of gene modifications. Candidate will also participate in developing and implementing porcine stem cell research with primary cell line derivation and culture, gene expression analysis and vector-based genetic modification. The candidate will be expected to generate peer-review research funding, to mentor students and fellows and to participate in other teaching activities of the CCTI and the Department of Medicine.
