Summary/General Description of Job:
The role of the Telecommunications Install Technician is to provide day-to-day installation support for a variety of telecommunication system installations. Responsible for moves/adds/changes of telecommunications equipment at NAS/JRB Belle Chase, LA. and remote sites, as needed. Responsible for troubleshooting and repairing telephone wiring and related telecommunications equipment. Responsible for moves/adds/changes and repair and maintenance of voice and data network cable plant, including CAT 5 and fiber optic cabling. Assists in administration and maintenance of voice mail, Centrex, PBX, cellular, and paging systems. This position reports to the BCO Supervisor.
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
Working closely with the government sponsor(s) and other contractors/subcontractors in federal facilities;
Install, relocate, service, and repair telephone equipment as assigned.
Run cable for new and renovated areas. Remove and/or relocate existing cable as necessary.
Install conduit and wire as necessary.
Document and maintain inventory and house pair assignments both on paper and in the computer database.
Assist as initial contact person for Telecommunications Department.
Create, update, and close work orders in the Telecommunications Work Order database.
Install and terminate standard voice and data network cable, including CAT 5 and fiber optic.
Perform diagnostic and troubleshooting functions on voice and data network cable plant.
Communicate with vendors as necessary.
Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to all aspects of the operation of the Telecommunications Department.
Comply with Departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
Demonstrate and model the core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all customers, both internal and external.
Ability to carry 50 pounds unaided or 90 pound loads aided
Work in tight, cramped spaces such as equipment racks, cableways, and under false decks
Work on ladders and/or move up and down ladder wells.
- We expect this employee to have experience working with telecommunication systems to include fiber and copper cable repair.
Must be a US citizen
Must have or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance
Must have 2 years’ experience working with cabling OR mechanical, OR power OR piping systems.
Must have High School diploma
Must be willing to travel up to 75% CONUS
Must be willing to work extended hours including weekends and holidays
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Experience reading installation drawings
