POSITION SUMMARY: This management position requires 24-hour responsibility for the operations of Infection Prevention and Control Services. The manager is responsible for the development, direction, evaluation and modification of all Infection Prevention and Control processes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program. Master’s preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in Infection Prevention and Control. Five (5) years of Infection Prevention management or supervisory experience, preferred.
License/Certification: Valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing. Certification in Infection Control, preferred.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge: A background in clinical nursing and infection prevention and control processes is essential. This position requires specialized training and extensive knowledge of infection control principles, practices, infection prevention & control standards and epidemiological principles. Must have extensive knowledge of expectations of various regulatory agencies which govern the principles and practices of infection prevention & control. In addition, must have skills in statistical analysis and must continually update knowledge of current infection prevention & control recommendations to ensure compliance with the local and national standards to meet the requirements for hospital accreditation. Basic computer skills is a necessity. The incumbent must have the ability to effectively communicate utilizing written and verbal skills.
POSITION DUTIES: Manage facility-wide Infection Prevention and Control for patients, health care workers and visitors. Manage the Infection Control staff to assure the appropriate planning, development, and implementation of various infection prevention and control applications are in place. Plans and facilitates the process of risk assessment or problem identification and develops strategies for interventions and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
Plans, writes, and implements policies which fulfill CDC, The Joint Commission, CMS, and OSHA standards. Assure compliance with written guidelines and procedures based on current laws, guidelines and procedures based on current laws, guidelines, and standards. Ensure reports to National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) contain accurate data and are submitted on schedule. Reviews and approves facility Infection Prevention and Control Plan, policies and procedures.
Directs needs assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Infection Control education programs for specific areas based on risks and surveillance data. Develops and provides educational programs for infection prevention.
Facilitates monthly analysis of surveillance data to be reported to the Infection Control Committee. Collaborates with the Medical Director on complex medical issues. Provides necessary guidance to the Infection Control Committee meeting as needed.
Develops communication methods to notify state and local health agencies, department heads, and supervisors of information necessary to ensure continuity of care and to meet public health requirements.
Communicates necessary operational and practice changes required to comply with standards set forth by regulatory, licensing, certification, and accrediting agencies. Assures Infection Prevention and Control interests are represented at multidisciplinary meetings.
