LCMC Health Anesthesia Technician in New Orleans, Louisiana

POSITION SUMMARY: Anesthesia technicians are integral members of the anesthesia patient care team. Their role is to: 1.) assist the anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia; 2.) provide support to the anesthesia provider for routine and complex surgical cases by assisting with transport, positioning and resuscitative efforts of patients; 3.) prepare and maintain patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. In this role, they contribute to safe, efficient and cost-effective anesthesia care.

POSITION DUTIES: Clinical Responsibilities: Assists Anesthesiologists and Certified Registerd Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in the acquisition, preparation and application of equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. Leads and conducts tests, maintenance, operations, troubleshooting and cleaning of equipment. Basic OR turnover, cleaning and stocking. Ready supplies, mechanical and electronic equipment, to help anesthesia providers monitor and manage patients. Prepare equipment and supplies needed to administer anesthesia to patients; set up and calibration of equipment (invasive pressure monitors, fluid warmers, rapid infusers, waive test monitors). Assist with special procedures: ABG blood gases, invasive line placement, blocks and difficult airways. Patient transport and positioning. Assist with codes. Ensure that equipment is clean/sterilized and functioning properly. Assist with training and new hire orientation of new team members. Serves as a resource person for other members of the Anesthesia Team.

Non-Clinical Responsibilities: Ability to rotate shifts. Coordinate the flow of supplies, equipment, and instruments between all Anesthesia sites, SPD, and personnel. Maintain supplies and equipment in all anesthesia areas and removes/replaces needed equipment. Stocks and maintains/removes supplies and applicable medications. Ability to think critically. Strong verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented and accurate. Ability to multi-task and manage time well. Able to function well under pressure, adapt to change and perform most functions independently; more complex functions require direction from CRNA or Anesthesiologist. Remain flexible and alters/accepts various tasks and assignments as they arise, per the Director’s requests or designee.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Education: Required: High School Graduate or Equivalent

Preferred: Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology

Preferred: Twoyears of experience as an Anesthesia Technician; may have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License/Certification: Required: Heart Saver or Basic Life Support Anesthesia Technician certification through the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.

Demonstrate knowledge of principles and policies concerning anesthesia procedures. Must be able to operate all anesthesia equipment and to recognize equipment malfunction. Must be able to read written directions and to write legibly. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

Physical Demands:
Heavy physical requirements: exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
