Alexion Pharmaceuticals Research Associate IV, Discovery Research in New Haven, Connecticut

Position Summary

The Research Associate IV will serve on cross-functional teams and contribute to the discovery of protein therapeutics to treat rare diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for the production and in vitro characterization of therapeutic proteins to enable candidate selection.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Mammalian cell culture and transient protein expression

  • Management of a cell culture lab

  • Maintenance of DNA / protein inventory

  • Experimental design and data interpretation

  • Characterization of the functional and biophysical properties of recombinant proteins

  • Meticulous record keeping, generation of technical reports and presentation of data

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in protein production and characterization:

  • Mammalian cell culture and transient protein expression

  • Protein purification

  • SDS-PAGE/ Western Blot

  • Thermal stability; fluorescence / light scattering

  • HPLC

  • Binding and inhibition assays

  • DNA/protein sequence analysis

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Excellent communication / collaboration skills

  • Highly organized with attention to detail

Education

  • M.S.in cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology or other biomedical science with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a B.S. with at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting.
