Summary

This supervisor is responsible for directing, supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives stores and issues supplies and material. The Logistics mission provides service to both clinical and administrative elements of the medical center. Supervises employees in the distribution area of Logistics. Plans and assigns work to subordinates based on priorities. Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
  • Monitoring expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removing items from use as required by outdates. Checking inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts.
  • Ensuring critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled. Performing daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders.
  • Distributing items according to established or ad hoc requirements using the generic inventory package (GIP). Fill requests for items based on daily schedules of needs or on an emergent basis as appropriate.
  • Delivering supplies in timely and accurate manner, ensuring that supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition. Deliveries will be to wards, clinics and other secondary locations that may be in remote sites.
  • Frequent contact with the vendor and/or contracted community, higher ranking managers, supervisors and staff of programs, administrative and other work activities throughout the Medical Center and CBOCs.
  • Unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons; properly storing supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas.
  • Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing computerized inventory system, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system.
  • Through periodic inventory with ward and clinical personnel, maintains stock levels, returns reusable supplies to the distribution area, informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed supplies, current medical supply resources, and shelf life.
  • Frequent contact with the vendor and/or contracted community, higher ranking managers, supervisors and staff of programs, administrative and other work activities throughout the Medical Center and CBOCs.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/16/2018.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note:Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: * Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Supervising logistics personnel; Conducts recurring physical inventories in accordance with inventory schedule. In addition, unscheduled inventories are performed. Inventories are often time-sensitive, requiring a very high degree of accuracy and skill in the use of technical drawing and inventory listings to identify items by proper nomenclature. Performs investigations to locate items that are stored in improper locations. Performs stock status investigations, inputs data regarding status into the system, performs physical checks of items in storage as appropriate to determine the cause of errors and reconcile the records. Use of GIP. Inventories are performed at varied locations including warehouses, production facilities, storage yards, and bulk storage tanks. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: 1. Technical Competence - Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues. 2. Managing Human Resources - Plans, distributes, coordinates, and monitors work assignments of others; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensured that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner. 3. Customer service - Works and communicates with clients and customers (e.g. any individual who used or received services or products that your work unit provides, including individuals who work in your agency or in other agencies or organizations outside the Government) to satisfy their expectations. Committed quality service. 4.Technology Application - Uses machines, tools, or equipment effectively; uses computers and computer application/systems to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format. 5. Reasoning - Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
